Well it's definitely a GREAT idea for that top decile.

The prospect is a lot less inviting for working single moms who have to compete with Chief Keef's lyrics and the neighborhood, um, "father figures" to come home and hear that their kid isn't eligible for the one school in her district with a high school graduation rate above 60%.
Haha your references are beyond me on this one pal, no idea what you mean by chief keef or father figures.

But I was the child of a single mom until she got remarried when I was in my late teens (didn't affect me, I was already gone to school) and I still was 99th percentile on all the standardized tests. Don't give a fuck. Some people are just stupid and aren't going to make it, no pity.

I don't disagree. I was saying that those apportioned school systems do the exact opposite of their implicit promise to poor families that all the kids will be given an equal education. But running a centrally-planned, single-payer education system makes it a NECESSITY to apportion resources FROM those without any motivation TO those with the ambition.

If thats what they're saying they're in error. They should give poor families the opportunity for an equal education. What the kid does with it is up to them. If they end up in the slacker class, so be it. Nobody made him score low on tests or not give a fuck, that was up to him.

Those highly-apportioned public college systems extend that practice all the way through grad school (it's actually worse in Japan and Korea). As bad as it is for disadvantaged German kids, imagine what it's like for inbred goatfucker kids who combine a high congenital risk for developmental problems with a brain-cancer cult and you begin to understand why they refuse to integrate and would rather spend the schoolday robbing white kids and thugging it up and terrorizing their teachers.

The thing about strict meritocracies like that is that they ruthlessly expose the weak... which hits the weak right in the feels.

SK might be a little crazy but in Germany, its the companies deciding who to hire, not the govt, right? So the companies close off all employees except the ones with X Y Z degrees that they approve?

Is that market-decided in Germany or is it govt intervention on who companies can hire?
It is the companies that decide, but in Germany the difference between the government, the unions, and the corporations is really blurred. Fun fact: Under the philosophy ofMitbestimmung,in Germany, the union associated with any public corporation with more than 500 employees gets to seat 50% of that company's board of directors. The shareholders have to make do with the other 50%, and there's a government representative on each board that breaks ties. In Germany they really go for "your company is part of your family" thing that many other countries do. This is actually very funny because my dad runs the US branch of a German company and they have to beat the fact that this does not apply here into the heads of any management type they bring over. In Germany it's not uncommon for your boss to ask you to run personal errands for him, because he's the "father" of the "family" and can do this. We had an incident once where one of the German consultants tried to get the engineers to run errands for him, I wasn't there but from what I hear that went to shit really quickly.

Was skimming a book by Mises recently and this is one of the things he pointed out about why everyone hates meritocracy and capitalism. It removes the excuses people have for failing. In aristocracies or caste systems etc, you are born to your station. Its not your fault. You can rise within it, but its not really your fault if you can't be a doctor or ceo or whatever. And people are always able to claim some sort of pride and dignity in their position. It lets people keep their delusions of being special and retain their pride and self worth.

He claims that in a true meritocracy it removes those excuses and hits people where it hurts most. In their pride. And so they need something to make it 'not their fault'. Someone has to be 'cheating' the system and lying to get ahead. Why they have failed in their ambitions while this other person has succeeded. And that is why he claims you see so many smart people, intellectuals, scientists etc that come out in favor of socialism and other such policies despite their repeated failures in history.

This is also made worse by meritocracy and capitalism choosing for the person who is best at accomplishing the task, not necessarily the person who is the 'best person'. So they see themselves being surpassed by someone who they consider 'morally inferior' and it just makes the pain of their own failure worse and helps push the 'well, the system is obviously broke and only the cheaters are getting ahead' narrative.

Edit: I'm high as a kite with on pain killers with a tooth infection. Tried to make it more coherent.

Well, that escalated quickly.

While I stand by my previous comment, I realize I should have been more clear. As the game director, I have final creative say over what does or does not go into the game. With this particular decision, it was an easy one to make-not just for me, but for the art team as well. We actually already have an alternate pose that we love and we feel speaks more to the character of Tracer. We weren't entirely happy with the original pose, it was always one that we wrestled with creatively. That the pose had been called into question from an appropriateness standpoint by players in our community did help influence our decision-getting that kind of feedback is part of the reason we're holding a closed beta test-but it wasn't the only factor. We made the decision to go with a different pose in part because we shared some of the same concerns, but also because we wanted to create something better.

We wouldn't do anything to sacrifice our creative vision for Overwatch, and we're not going to remove something solely because someone may take issue with it. Our goal isn't to water down or homogenize the world, or the diverse cast of heroes we've built within it. We have poured so much of our heart and souls into this game that it would be a travesty for us to do so.

We understand that not everyone will agree with our decision, and that's okay. That's what these kinds of public tests are for. This wasn't pandering or caving, though. This was the right call from our perspective, and we think the game will be just as fun the next time you play it.

If it isn't, feel free to continue sharing your concerns, thoughts, and feedback about this and other issues you may have with the game, please just keep the discussion respectful.

Thanks,

jeffrey

I feel like that situation would push peopletowardtrade skills.
It's probably a cultural thing, as in, if you're not "book smart" (i.e. college educated) then you're an idiot. The truth is, there's a huge lack in the trade skills. If you do go down that route you're practically guaranteed a job, and if you do well and know your shit, you can earn a good paycheck and work as much as you want. In contrast, due to the huge glut of college educated people there is high unemployment amongst them and those who do have a job need to be *very* lucky to get something decent in their field. Go to any caf? or shop and chances are you'll be served by someone with a college degree.

There's basically two tiers of college degrees, there's the ones that require four semester of calculus and the ones that don't. The ones that do basically all come with a job on graduation, the ones that don't are becoming more and more worthless. Its pretty uncanny how this basically always holds, even degrees that one would think aren't real world applicable like Physics are still very valuable, while even STEM degrees are becoming garbage if they don't require math. A Biology or Chemistry degree isn't worth much anymore.

A chemistry degree is absolutely worthwhile. A biology degree is a little more mixed and really depends on how chemistry heavy the program/specialization is. A friend of mine double majored in chemistry/physics and then got a PhD in neurobiology, her program was tough and although the department was mostly women none of the ones I met were the SJW types.

Biology maybe. Chem degrees are still very good for well paid employment after graduation.

Edit - The biology part greatly depends on concentration. General bio degrees are meh. Imminology, neurobiology, bioinformatics, molecular biology, etc... usually all require at a minimum calc, stats and one additional math course, plus the general physics courses which utilize a decent amount of mathematics.
