That joke would play a lot better with the people he wrote it for.

Hollywood asskissers, he wrote it for Hollywood asskissers.

More or less the same from what I remember. The government wanted to start registering super heros. Iron Man was for and Cap was against. It's been a while since I've read the series.

Well the entire point of conflict was hero's taking different positions on government control of superheroes.

Some of the hero's have to oppose government control or there is no story.

Hey remember when Cap defied a generals orders to go rescue his friends?
Remember when Cap listened to Tony and broke into Shields weapons testing to inspect what they were doing with cube tech?

Kumail is funny, and his wife is a pretty decent listen. By the timing, the dude was just making a "late night" joke. Nothing to see here.
If that is sarcasm it's definitely some Poe's law shit.

Oh i fully believe he is a feminist, not a "FEMINIST". But I have listened to him, and his wife, on a ton of things. But he isn't some sort of super SJW crazy like on most of twitter. Dude is just a left leaning guy making jokes. There is a YUUUGE distinction between dudes like Kumail and some of the people we see posting dumb shit. He came from a society he admits is very unfair to women and he absolutely rejects. Plus he is one of those nerds who never figured out how to talk to women, so he does have a tendancy to put them on a pedestal. Kumail is harmless.

Even if true, it's still a shitty joke that only fuels the SJW narrative of "anyone hating on a woman is a misogynist". Nobody is saying this dude is Laury Pennie. Just saying I'm sad to see a comedian pushing this narrative, even if it was an attempt at a joke.

That's absolutely fair.

what was his position in the comic books?
As Skanda said, yes. One of the hidden ironies of Civil War is Iron Man, and the government he was supporting, was a complete douchey, evil, bad guy in it (Was really one sided) and the writers constantly played into that; by making it so the government required registration and transparency from all super humans (And used tons of underhanded tactics to get it). Meanwhile though nearly all of Marvel's writers are super pro-gun control liberals that heavily favor gun registration and comment a lot on social media about how it is outrageous people don't have to register guns.

In other words, they unwittingly made their story an allegory foragainsttheir beliefs, with the 'good guys' clearly being against any kind of registration (Even for powers that could level cities) for fear of government overreach and corruption. (In the comics it was essentially 'anonymouspeople with super powers that could kill thousands are safer than the government!')

So yes, Cap was always super libertarian in the comics, he distrusts the government a great deal but will die for them IF they are upholding the American ideal, he will fight against them if not. In the comics, in order to make him the super-good guy, they had Iron Man pull some shady shit. Russos actually made it a lot more graynotby changing Rogers but by making so Iron Man wasn't half nuts with power. But Cap was the same, he's always been this way, these knuckleheads just never noticed the actual metaphor before now because it wasn't drawn with big neon signs for them to dislike it. Mainly because they are morons.
