4 years on soliciting via SMS. Jury recommended 6 years. No assault or statutory rape occurred.

That's weird.

"Court documents say she and a student began exchanging nude photos and videos.

The boy also told investigators he had met Hancock privately inside the school several times to ‘make out.’

Hancock denies she did anything wrong and says the student is lying."

Her defense was that he's lying? Were there nude photos and videos or not? Did she really get convicted because a student said he got them but deleted?

Maybe just a shitty writer.

Since most of these teachers are under 30, how the fuck are they not smart enough to know not to send anything electronically?

You got it backwards. It's the young uns who have more trust. They grew up with it. The risk is normalized. She probably sent nudes to her HS boyfriends and as far as she knew, they were never seen by anyone else.

But I'm still not sure this one sent anything. It's hard to believe she'd still be calling him a liar if they produced pics or vids in court. If pictures were shown, surely she would have been saying they were deep fakes.

I thought it read she had sent texts and shit. Maybe I misread it.

It said court documents say ..., but she calls him a liar so either she's living in denial or they weren't actually produced.

Or the most likely scenario is really shitty writing. Fuck it, I guess I'm going to look for more articles now.

This seems more informative.

It doesn't seem like the video is there as hard evidence and the messages were over Snapchat, which by default gets deleted after reading.

"Although the 20 witnesses for the state discussed the alleged relationship in detail, jurors were never shown specific messages between Hancock and the student, something the defense attempted to emphasize while cross examining witnesses and during closing arguments."

She's also the wife of a cop, which seems to happen more often than you'd think by random coincidence.

It seems like she could have a case on appeal as the only direct testimony is from the kid and the other stuff is just rumors that were heard about.

"Throughout the trial, Hancock’s defense team attempted to cast doubt on prosecutors’ case by pointing out the numerous times the student told his friends of his relationship with Hancock. Although multiple students told jurors Tuesday that the student had flaunted his relationship with the substitute and showed them pictures and messages she had sent him, the student testified Monday he did not tell anyone about his relationship with Hancock until his father confronted him about it after a meeting with the Wellston High School principal."

It's not clear if any student witnesses claimed to have actually seen the pictures or videos, or if they were just told about it by the kid.

She was found guilty of texts to the 15 year old and showing a video of herself to 8th graders. She wasn't actually convicted of having a relationship with the kid. The video was her at a halloween party kissing another girl and pretending to go down on her. Her lawyer still says she's innocent. Apparently they just threw a lot of witnesses on the stand. I bet they spent all their time defending the statutory rape charges and didn't do enough to address the 2 they convicted on.

Some of the witnesses say the student showed the pics and texts to people. So even if it was all snapchat, he was allegedly saving them and they should have been able to find them.

In addition to being married to the chief of police, her dad is the mayor who is also having trouble. It's starting to feel like a political hit, of sorts.

How the fuck did a jury convict someone based on a 15 year old boy claims he had nudes but didn't save them? Her lawyer must be fucking awful.

Well ya see, the investigators could tell there was definitely some texts from an account name delaney. But snapchat wouldn't preserve the evidence so what're they supposed to do? I bet they never even proved delaney was her account.

The lead investigator didn't testify because he had just been elected sheriff of the county. The article says he almost lost the race because of how he mishandled this case, but it didn't give any details.

That's why I posted it. The case is interesting because the evidence wasn't really there and the boy's statements weren't corroborated with hard evidence.

Combine that with a long hard prison sentence (not jail time)

This is the first time I've seen a conviction on these charges with scant evidence result in a stiff sentence. They didn't really have enough to convict here if the jury was doing their job.

I think she's denying that they met up inside the school to make out. One would assume the texts and photos are documented, but stupider cases have happened and people get convicted with no actual evidence all the time.

What makes this one weird is it's a woman being convicted with no actual evidence.

One would assume. One of those articles says specifically they were not available to the jury. Because they were snapchat. So all they had was the testimony of the kid and some other kids who claim he showed them around. Before snapchat deleted them forever where even the cops couldn't get to them.

She's not a model by any means, but she's not THAT hideous.

If there's no proof except testimony, thats absolutely ridiculous.
