They collect sales tax from most states now.

Edit: Spoke too soon, it's only 25 states:https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amazon_tax
Yeah the Missouri law is hilarious. The state collects no sales tax from online retailers. It's up to individual citizens to file a tax form and pay their sales tax directly to the state for any online purchases they make.

I'll let you guess what the compliance is on that (since the state has no way to track online purchases). I've never paid a single cent in sales tax for an online purchase, and I don't know anyone that has.

Maryland had that as well, called a "Use Tax". Nobody paid it. Now that Amazon has a physical presence in the state (A DC), we pay, UNLESS it's shipped from another state. So we spend an extra 10 seconds here checking "other sellers" and most times, still don't pay. What a country we live in.

New York has the same kind of law. You're supposed to report all untaxed online purchases and pay the sales tax yourself. Amazon has been collecting for a long time, but thankfully, most retailers don't.

In Minnesota they tack it on to all online purchases, including Amazon. They have for about a year and a half.

On a side note, we have no tax on clothing here and are one of the few states running in the green with a surplus of 1.87 billion.

In AZ it's called a use tax. So not only buying things out of state, but I guess if you move into Arizona from a state with less sales tax you're supposed to apply the difference in tax to everything you own...

We got a huge AWS data center installed here in central Ohio so now Amazon collects tax

I don't see the problem. One day, those taxes will be used to pay for instant holographic replays of Bengals QBs throwing interceptions.

California started charging tax on Amazon sales in the past couple years as well. It used to be the "honor system" which obviously didn't work well, so now anything shipped to California automatically gets charged tax, no matter what. Even if it originated out of state.

Such bullshit because Newegg and other online retailers don't charge sales tax, at least in FL, GA, and NC (the three states I've spent the vast majority of my life in). I just spent a good chunk of change on a NAS and was going to order it from Amazon, but since I didn't need it right away (was going out of town for a few days right before I ordered it) the two day Prime shipping wasn't really important. Ended up saving $70 in tax ($999 item).

Edit: Forgot to mention the Newegg shipping was free, 4-6 day or something like that.

For me it's even better when buying from Newegg. If it ships from their NJ warehouse it's just as good as prime shipping. Sometimes if I order a part early enough in the day it shows up on the next day.

Unfortunately, Newegg is affected just as much as Amazon is here in California. My boy Arnold vetoed the original bill too, which is another reason I always defend his stint as governor (minus fucking his ugly maid, but hey, his alternative was Skeletor, so maybe he needed some cushion for the pushin'), because it wasn't him that was shitty, it was the constant cock-blocking by congress that was shitty. California would be perfect if it didn't have such terrible politicians and such a high cost of living.

I order parts from newegg for my company and we got audited a few years back and the State of Missouri made us start paying sales tax on the purchases from newegg, not because its an actual law, they just chose to reinterpret the tax code to make business' pay sales tax on online purchases.

I've been without TV stations since 2010. I only use Amazon Prime streaming at this point, torrents for what isn't on there. The few TV shows I actually want to watch are available online on the stations' websites for free, as well as their program right now as a live stream, as they're public broadcasting, and private broadcasting (which charge money here for their online library) only send fucking garbage I have no interest in.

I use a sony blueray+receiver to put the amazon stuff on the TV, I use a small laptop on HDMI to put the torrents and internet stuff on the TV. The TV itself is not connected to any other source but what comes in through HDMI.

No live sports that way except for what the public broadcasters show, which thankfully is all world cup and uefa euro matches.

I'm paying 40?, so $50ish for 50mbit down 10mbit up FIOS.
