I was under the impression that Amazon got away with not taxing sales in most states since they don't technically operate out of them. Has that changed? Many states tax online sales, including Amazon.

They collect sales tax from most states now.I was under the impression that Amazon got away with not taxing sales in most states since they don't technically operate out of them. Has that changed?
Yeah the Missouri law is hilarious. The state collects no sales tax from online retailers. It's up to individual citizens to file a tax form and pay their sales tax directly to the state for any online purchases they make. They collect sales tax from most states now.
Edit: Spoke too soon, it's only 25 states:https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amazon_tax
Maryland had that as well, called a "Use Tax". Nobody paid it. Now that Amazon has a physical presence in the state (A DC), we pay, UNLESS it's shipped from another state. So we spend an extra 10 seconds here checking "other sellers" and most times, still don't pay. What a country we live in.Yeah the Missouri law is hilarious. I'll let you guess what the compliance is on that (since the state has no way to track online purchases). I've never paid a single cent in sales tax for an online purchase, and I don't know anyone that has.
New York has the same kind of law. You're supposed to report all untaxed online purchases and pay the sales tax yourself. Amazon has been collecting for a long time, but thankfully, most retailers don't.Yeah the Missouri law is hilarious. The state collects no sales tax from online retailers. Thats a county tax not a state taxI don't see the problem. One day, those taxes will be used to pay for instant holographic replays of Bengals QBs throwing interceptions.
Such bullshit because Newegg and other online retailers don't charge sales tax, at least in FL, GA, and NC (the three states I've spent the vast majority of my life in). I just spent a good chunk of change on a NAS and was going to order it from Amazon, but since I didn't need it right away (was going out of town for a few days right before I ordered it) the two day Prime shipping wasn't really important. Ended up saving $70 in tax ($999 item). They collect sales tax from most states now.

For me it's even better when buying from Newegg. If it ships from their NJ warehouse it's just as good as prime shipping. Sometimes if I order a part early enough in the day it shows up on the next day.Such bullshit because Newegg and other online retailers don't charge sales tax, at least in FL, GA, and NC (the three states I've spent the vast majority of my life in). Edit: Forgot to mention the Newegg shipping was free, 4-6 day or something like that.
Unfortunately, Newegg is affected just as much as Amazon is here in California. My boy Arnold vetoed the original bill too, which is another reason I always defend his stint as governor (minus fucking his ugly maid, but hey, his alternative was Skeletor, so maybe he needed some cushion for the pushin'), because it wasn't him that was shitty, it was the constant cock-blocking by congress that was shitty. California would be perfect if it didn't have such terrible politicians and such a high cost of living.Such bullshit because Newegg and other online retailers don't charge sales tax, at least in FL, GA, and NC (the three states I've spent the vast majority of my life in). Still no Roku or Chromecast. It's like HBO is going down the list of the next highest one who paid them. I guess it was Amazon.HBO Now's exclusive deal with shitty apple is over.HBO NOW. It's HBO. All you need is the Internet.
