Sad thing is, I've been conditioned by Comcast's shitty upload for so long (Cox Communications in Phoenix before this did the same thing), that getting 40 is like HEAVEN. I can't even imagine what a symmetrical connection would be like. Probably amazing? haDamn, such shitty upload.
Get 300/300 (about 400/400 with the networking setup I have) for $50 /month through ATT. Was getting 950ish/1050 before I moved for $95.

It all depends on how you have it set to transcode, and what you are downloading. I download a lot of 4k remuxes (basically full quality, as if I were watching the actual disk), and I had my Plex server set to send out 1080p to everyone. Well, the first time someone tried to stream a 4k rip, it literally froze my entire computer for several minutes due to how much processing it was trying to do. I have alleviated that some by letting it send out the files with no transcoding, but now I have the Comcast upload bottleneck. I told everyone that if there was stuff they really wanted to watch, they could message me and I'd get it in a cheap 1080p rip or something, but they still fail to check the stats for each file and inevitably start the 4k instead. And most just stop using it because they don't want to bug me to get them alternate versions. (I'm not going to stop getting 4k rips for myself, otherwise what is the point of having all this home theater shit?!)I've ran a Plex server off my home desktop PC for years now, and never have seen any issue with games or otherwise. Granted, I share it out to 5 or less people, so it's not very taxing, but it's never been a problem.
Lol, I still went back to 480p for TV shows. Fuck how much space 4k takes. 4k looks nice, but not much better than decent 1080p, so for movies I just stick with that. Maybe a problem with not being able to see them side by side? Just don't care. I mean Hulu still only does 720p doesn't it? And when Netflix pops up showing Dolby Vision I'm like cool, but it's not that noticeable to me.It all depends on how you have it set to transcode, and what you are downloading. I know you just recently upgraded from watching in 480p (/shudder) so 4k might not be a problem for you yet...but trust me, that will kill even a beefy dedicated server, if you have it trying to transcode down to something streamable over Comcast.
Unless you watch local news on-demand, get a digital receiver.DirectTV pissed me off for the last time. My head is spinning reading just the last 3 pages, how far back do I need to go to get with the cut-the-cord times???? plex?? wtf is that? I need TV not my house re piped.
I have Amazon and Netflix now, only thing I will miss is local TV (for local news). What will fill that gap?
Just get an HD antenna. If you really want you can get a DVR to record stuff from the antennaDirectTV pissed me off for the last time. Are you just looking to view it in your home on a few devices? Not sharing it with people outside?Anyone know of a good alternative to Plex? It has been a shitshow lately, chopping up on a hardwired 4k Apple TV and a Firestick and I'm about done trying to troubleshoot the constant "Connection not fast enough" error. I'm reading about Emby a bit but was wondering if anyone used it?
Was probably 30ft direct line of sight with the router, and yea, I understand that. Just like being wired. I'm just not sure why this is happening on Youtube. About to hop on Twitch, and confirm what auto settings do there, but pretty sure it was 1080p.Check YouTube settings but something doesn't sound right. Depending on router and line of sight you may not see a noticeable difference between WiFi and wired though.

Chrome, on a 1080p 60hz screen. I looked into settings for Youtube, but didn't see anything. Might look into what Dom was saying. Honestly, I'm terrible, and couldn't tell a difference in the videos I was watching the difference between 720p, and forcing it to 1080p. Lol. I could tell it was bad quality, but just not a difference when I bumped it up.What is running YouTube and what is the connect route to the display output? Usually there's settings in YouTube itself, or the device, or your display/receiver is only 720p?
