Eh, I'm not going to get into a "knees too sharp" argument here, but Diablo 3 was definitely too bright and I'd say the majority of the gamers playing it preferred the aesthetic of D2... by a million miles.

Doesn't mean this game won't be incredible, I hope it is and have a ton of faith in the developers. Excited to see more gameplay soon

Knowing there will be a day/night cycle, I feel like the use of bright colors in the trailer is pretty smart. It definitely gives the setting a very "California" feel (since Night City is somewhere between LA and SF). Everything doesn't have to have the NYC/Seattle shadowrun color palette. It certainly did not feel cheery, just bright--the scene with the prostitutes at night in the grimey neighborhood, beating the shit out of a john while someone (his buddy?) lays a few feet away shows that.

Personally, while we are picking things out of the trailer, I want to know why there are a bunch of cowboys running around.

I feel like I'm on the same sentiment regarding the issues with visuals. I believe what William Gibson says is pretty accurate, that it's more in line with a 80s retrofuture. Realistically that's just pulling word and fitting them as it honestly is still somewhat cyberpunk, I guess... Grimdark is the easy route. Idk the story/characters and overall feel yet.

But honestly, a lot in that trailer which is suppose to describe the "poverty" looked cleaner than modern Tokyo, and it can be quite thrashed in the degenerate hours around Shinjuku and Shibuya. I simply just want the class line more divided, a trashier underbelly. I want a clear vision of dystopian and utopian divide, but not too far where one side is mad max and the other is space casinos. It doesn't have to have the noir that, probably a good chunk of people are demanding. Simply put, just not enough Kawloon for my immediate tastes.

Still day one for me, I respect cdpr to make a good game and they deserve some artistic licenses over the genre we've come to know. I'll be surprised if they didn't have any synthwave, but I really hope for some gesstaffelstein.
Oh yeah I would also like to add that there is a time different, I would think that if the game was set in 2020 there would be a completely different look. We talking 57 years off. Here a comment from Mike Pondsmith about this

Could be a cowboy themed gang or just some fashion trend.

Yeah. My personal theory is that if we are the "do what it takes" mercenary for hire, if the cowboys aren't a foil to that. Some Street Samurai/Bushido code kinda loner straight-man. There's a lot of interesting stuff in that 90 second trailer, but who/why/what are the cowboys were the thing that left me wanting to know more the most.

FPS made my dick even harder, will always take that over TPS. Wonder if they are going to incorporate any of the old class structure into your character or just design NPC's off of them and do something new for the player.

So many people are losing their minds about the first person view, reminds me of a argument with friends in middle school lol

It's most likely that as you said, potentially people who absolutely refuse to use cyber enhancements and keep their body "pure" but still work the tough jobs(bounty hunting, private, bodyguards what have you, the usual) and they use the cowboy imagery from the good ole 'Murica to show that. At least it didn't really feel out of place when you consider many cyberpunk settings having as you said samurais and stuff, which is fairly similar in concept.

I don't think it was too colorful though, generally I associate cyberpunk with a lot of flashy and bright colors, it's just they're flashy and bright within a dark place, while this takes place by daytime and isn't like a super megalopolis where even sun can't reach due to the megacorpo buildings everywhere and/or the several "levels" where only rich get to still see the sky. Mind you, I do like that kind of setting too, but I think this should still be pretty interesting in its own right, and I think at night it'll probably look fucking great too.

Ultimately I mostly care about the gameplay, the setting should be adequate regardless, I just want to know if it's fun to play. Especially stuff like multiple ways to complete the game, not just the cyber enhanced one-man-army with guns blazing. Like if you can play a "pacifist", hacking or talking(as in blackmailing and pressuring) your way through shit.

  • CD Projekt describes the game as a "first-person RPG."
  • Gameplay is in first a first-person perspective, but switched to third-person during a cutscene.
  • You play a character named V (as in the letter).V can be a man or a woman.
  • The game features first-person driving. While driving, the U.I. appears diegetically on the windshield.
  • Damage numbers pop up during combat.
  • CD Projekt also described Cyberpunk as a "mature experience intended for mature audiences."
  • Like Witcher, you take missions from NPCs and have dialogue options in conversations.
  • It's an open world that you open up more with "street cred." For example, a specific jacket might raise it by 5%, allowing you access to new places.

  • Game is FPS perspective
  • FPS perspective made to feel more personal
  • RPG with Shooter Elements not a Shooter with RPG elements
  • Multiple different progression systems (Skills, Perks, etc.)
  • V, protagonist - urban merc/hired gun.
  • Voiced protagonist, male and female voices
  • Full character creation system (Gender, Looks, Lifepath/Backstory)
  • You DO NOT pick classes in the beginning, class system is fluid based on choices
  • Dystopian Cyberpunk future shown in sunlight on purpose. Full Day/Night Cycle. Noir themes bleed through environment and aesthetic
  • Characters from Cyberpunk 2020 lore will appear
  • Netrunner Techie and Solo are main focused classes
  • You can combine classes
  • Optional classes exist (like Rockerboy and Corporate) and you can pull perks from them to add into your own custom class
  • Story and quest system from Witcher 3 is implemented into Cyberpunk similarly.
  • Choice and consequence is HUGE. Emphasized that the game is an RPG first and foremost
  • Story is personalized by player choice.
  • Combat - Ranged combat and Melee combat. Learned lessons from Witcher 3. FPS Melee combat.
  • Weapons - 3 branches - Power Weapons (heavy hitting/stagger), Tech Weapons (penetrating through cover), Smart Weapons (tracking/following)
  • Vehicles - Motorcycles, Cars, hinted at flying cars.
  • V is a fully voiced character. Both Male and Female completely voiced.
  • V's personality is shaped by player. Backstory and interactions shape V's personality.
  • Cyberpunk is a dark dystopia in the same vein as Witcher 3 being Dark Fantasy
  • Details of the world - everything has a purpose. World design was a huge focus in setting the tone.
  • Night City - in between SF and LA (fictional city). Inspired by both cities.
  • 6 unique districts in the city. Each area has its own feel on top of the base Noir feel
  • Exploration is encouraged.
  • Witcher was horizontally huge, Cyberpunk is vertically huge.
  • You can enter buildings, Mega Buildings exist as well with multiple floors and multiple areas to explore within a single building.
  • No level scaling. 2 forms of XP - Core XP - Main Missions and Street Cred - Side missions
  • Higher Street Cred opens new exclusive vendors and fixers (new jobs)

Sorry just finding bits and pieces on reddit, IGN and gamespot

That is awesome. Is that all actual dialogue from Witcher 3? I kinda remember him asking her about worlds she traveled to and maybe the houses of glass part, but I don't remember the rest.

Yes that was actually in the game.

This looks so awesome.

Why oh why can’t we have a decent modern day MMO in this setting.

Nothing I'm saying has anything to do with dark rainy neons, night cycles was a given. I'd be pretty upset if the game was just set at night at all times unless for whatever reason they had a good excuse.

Its the shown class divide. The difference in the "punks" and the "suits" ultimately feels too close to me. Collapse of middle class, where you have those who are rich and those who are trying to be rich. Elysium, not a great movie, but has a good example of that divide. The madmax like suburbs and the untouchable rich(two extremes). Blade runner has it, akira has it, gits has it, so on. This talks it, but personally, doesn't show it. Maybe it's just in parts not shown, but the parts show feel it; granted half second clips. It just feels like they took modern day and transplanted it with futuristic vibes. I'm just looking for something like the people on the streets of Detroit, in the middle of times Square, prob a bad example but w/e.

Its only a small gripe. Has no leverage on me buying it or not... Still getting it regardless, and hyped. My complaint could be written out in dialog and characters, it just looks right off the bat much cleaner than Tokyo streets, and I just wanted a little more Kawloon city.
