Its not about hype.
Like, cmon guys. Projekt Red is making this fucking game......the guys who brought you Witcher 3, perhaps the greatest open world RPG in history. Even if you just transplanted cyberpunk skin over the witcher in a cyberpunk world and called it a day id be on board.
This game is going to be incredible.
I think one thing that could separate it is the real time communication aspect while running missions. I imagine it will be a much better, more dynamic Knights of the Old Republic decision wheel type system that determines your honor/dishonor but in real time. Not a true faction hit system but maybe a small morality hit if you say steal an upgrade off of an innocent in an adjacent room instead of following the plan your handler wants you to execute, as an example.
I could be completey wrong, but just take a second to think of real time morality decisions that affect the game in terms of quest opportunities, gear acquirement and alternate endings. I remember playing a game on Sega CD called Rise of the Dragon. One of the best fucking cyberpunk games I ever played. Yea the combat aspect of the game was cheesy but the mood, and atmosphere made you feel like you were in the middle of a sprawling metropolis filled with bums, hookers, dangerous augmented hooodlums, and mystery, all while trying to find items in order to solve a murder.
If they could recreate that atmosphere, add in the complexities of KotR, mixed with the Witcher quality world building in a FPS view? How can this game be bad. You also have the vertical aspect, another element of the game that could really be a positive in terms of feeling like there is more game. They need to make you feel like you have freedom, if they can do that, you got a winner, thats the only way they can fail IMO, if they dont nail the open world aspect.
