DAOC: Origins - New Server

Leveling in 8 man groups is fine and all, but these guys gotta get their shit together. I started out in an 8 man after the server launched. Once we got to level 10 we went to Nisse's Lair (the first dungeon in Midgard) and there were no mobs to be found in the entire dungeon. So we were like, "hey, what's everyone doing in Uppland?" and then I was level 50 later that night.

If the actual group content was implemented, people may be more likely to group.

Edit: New problem now... server is up.. I guess? But when I go to log in all of my character slots say "Top Text Button / Bottom Text Button" so I can't actually log in with a character.

You can level fine in a group setting even though you missed out on the rush is not an answer. I'm going to consider whether I actually want to play here. I had planned on getting a few months fun out of this, but given how this has been handled coupled with the absolute shit state of the server I'm rethinking this.

i never played originally and wanted to try something more along the lines of the EQ days. so strong this ^^^^ .

how much is the actual time difference for the avg class now? (comparing those who got near-instant cap vs. the ones who have to level normally now) is it 1 day /played or like 5?

If you had a constant 8-man 1-50 it would be the same speed, if not faster than zerging. Obviously that is not realistic. I would say being proactive and being a group friendly class you could hit 50 in 1 day played easily.

Just guessing however (from playing some in solid 8 mans), I zerged to 50 like a scrub

The server is a fucking mess. Broken everything and constant crashes. It's ridiculous. I haven't been able to play for a session of more than 10 mins without crashing and waiting for another 5-10 to log back in.

The idea was great, but the implementation has been a huge clusterfuck.

The positive note in all of this is that there is a pretty decent demand for a classic DAOC server. Maybe someone else will jump on the bus and run a proper server.

Yeah, this server is going to be a giant clusterfuck. The people running it seem to be well-meaning but they're in way over their heads.

Odd, I've had no issue playing for 6/7+ hour stretches. The only bad night was that first night when it felt like they were being ddos'd with servers down over and over. Since then its just been the random crash and occasional reboot.

I think they can be cut a break for that though, they probably thought theyd be lucky to hit 500-600

My play session today has been sitting in the same spot for about 3 hours waiting for my (Seer) epic quest NPC to spawn.

Apparently the Viking one respawns every 10 minutes.

That really sucks, ones I've killed on Alb have been up every time we went for em.

I've had some bugged quest and spawn issues. Other then that the occasional server crash after that horrible Thursday night and its been pretty fun. Not bad and with them getting close to 1500 online is pretty good.

Massively indecisive on what to play -- friends are doing healer/SM/warrior. Was thinking of Shaman since a dif friend will likely do Skald. How are Shamans overall in this patch?

Having a great time in RvR on Mid. Also had about 10 friends start fresh tonight and none of them care about the head start others got fwiw.
