Nah its out on PC already.

But yeah that might be why Vaclav isn't seeing it on PSN yet.

So I beat Dark Souls tonight! Hooray for me. I'm planning on getting Platinum (a first for me), because these games are just that cool apparently.

Question for you DS1 gurus: I messed up in my first playthrough and consumed the Firelink chick's soul upping my Estus, and thus couldn't kindle that bonfire past 10 once I got the Rite. I'm debating just going to kill Pinwheel first off in this NG+, but my question is does that particular leg of progression mess with any NPC's story? I'm pretty sure the answer is no (I know Rhea is in Tomb, but I won't go that far), but I ask because some of the stuff I still need for Trophies involves Petrus/Rhea for miracles (mostly Rhea), Lantrisomething and Quelaana for Pyromancies, and Solaire's storyline/covenant for miracles too. I also need to "discover" three covenants still, the Gravelord one (which I can do in Catacombs while I'm there, I think?), the Darkwraith, and Warrior of Sunlight.

TLDR: Can I go smack down Pinwheel first off in NG+ and not mess with any NPC storylines or lock myself out of anything?

-edit- I think at some point Rhea and Nico/whoever show up in Firelink ready to go on their excursion to Tomb, but I don't recall the story trigger. Hopefully it's not Catacombs/Pinwheel progression?

Yes, I always do Pinwheel (and get the Gravelord Sword) first thing, and it doesn't disrupt anything

It's just weird, usually they promote them in advance for anything of worth. And they just did with Bloodborne for like 2-3 months. But nothing in advance here - I'll be upset if it's physical only.

There's no such thing as physical only on the PS4, it's a Sony requirement. Not sure why there's no pre-order, but it'll be there on Tuesday. Should be 12:01AM EDT just like Xbone.

You'd have to be crazy to pay $60 for the PS4/Xbone versions in the state they're about to be released in though. The durability bug is getting ported over to consoles, and From is showing no sign of being interested in patching it themselves. The PC version will be fixed by tomorrow or Tues at the latest according to the guy who fixed it in vanilla DS2.

Durability loss is tied to the physics engine, which always assumes the game is running at 30 fps. Run it at 60 fps and your weapons all break twice as fast. To make matters worse, certain physics-enabled objects, like ragdolled corpses for instance, apply durability checks on practically every frame. Even running the game at 30 fps you break weapons ridiculously fast if you hit corpses at all, and of course it gets doubled when you run at 60.

It's a game-breaking bug that they never fixed in the PC release of Dark Souls 2, or with the release of SotFS on PC last week, and people who've done previews of the console version have confirmed that it happens on PS4/Xbone too.

Having played the PS4 version up until the kings symbol now, 19 or so bosses down, it must either be less noticeable on it due to lower frames than what a PC can do, or else the bug is ... not in full effect?

I think I have broken the fire sword two times. Had to swap between swords 3-4 times. But that is it. In 25 or so hours. Once I got the ring that increases durability, I never break things. A ring that I never saw the point in equipping at all on the PS3 since things never broke. Weapons might break in the few places where there is a distance between bonfires. The only places this happened to be (and all breaks and swaps happened in these areas) were forgotten cove (the place with the ghost boat) and in the path on the way down to the black gulch.

Just now with a +2 ring to lowered item degradation I just cleared the path from the bonfire with the crossroads of 3 places, leading up to the shrine of Amalia or something, cleared up to the kings gate, then up to the castle, cleared castle up to bonfire, lit without rest, cleared the rest up to the dragon boss, with a +10 lightning zweihander and it still had 30% left.

Difference between PS4 version and PS3 version is only that you actually pay attention to degradation now. Only time I ever got a warning on the PS3 was when using the washing board katana which has lowered durability in the item description.

Simply put. You would never know this was a bug if playing this on the PS4 at the moment. The progression is actually linear on it now. Start off, things risk breaking, might need to keep a spare weapon ready. Later you get rings and upgrades that lower the risk. Previously there never was a risk and felt like a pointless feature.

Note: Above is comparison between PS3 and PS4. If the PC version can go up to 120+ frames, then I can see things breaking much, much too fast. But from the PS3 to PS4 it just seems like a feature that now "works" similar to the darkness being dark and not just gray. In no way does this "bug" break the PS4 version. EDIT: Bug is now in quotation marks because on the PS4 it no longer feels like a bug, but a fixed feature.

There are low durability weapons that rendered useless with the durability bug. ie. Richard's Rapier which has 45 durability and breaks within a couple mobs. Heaven forbid the mob dies early in the swing animation and breaks on the first mob.

To say it's a fixed feature is absurd.

Just did a test. Default Washing board, non upgraded with a durability of 20 which is the lowest durability weapon I think I have. Takes large swings and hits lots.

With durability ring + 2: Killed 15 of the standard mobs (first area you go to). Took around 3-4 hits each. I made sure to keep swinging to hit corpses. It warned me on the 15th, broke on the 16th.

Without ring: Killed 7, broke on 8th.

It honestly doesn't feel much different than what it did on the PS3. It broke so quick there too that it was useless.

However, my level 10 Lightning zweihander (without ring) same area: Killed 32 on the path to torch. They all died in one hit, but made sure to swing at least twice on them. Ended up using around 45% durability. With ring, I guess it would have been 15-20 % durability loss.

34 hours played now, with soul level 133 and other than just now, when testing a weapon I knew would break easily, I haven't been bothered by the durability issue at all. It might be absurd to say it is a fixed feature, but it is certainly not gamebreaking other than perhaps a few weapon builds with high dex fast weapon, like the rapier.

The only times that durability was an issue for me was the very beginning when I was using garbage weapons and on the dlc dragon fight whose name is escaping me atm. Used a Pursuers UGS for the majority of my playthrough so ymmv.

It matters a shit ton more if you like to use the halberd weapons. Black Knight halberd especially is a joke as if you misjudge a swing ever once and clip a mode with the haft it dies almost instantly.

Most 1h swords/maces etc it never really matters much.

Alright, I definitely think the durability bug breaks the game early on. I've broken TWO weapons so far and I'm not even to the first forest bonfire. I'm having to avoid any non-mandatory encounter for fear of breaking another weapon. This is temporarily game-breaking, but it'll eventually become a major annoyance that'll be dealt with, albeit with much annoyance.

It's definitely annoying early game when all you have is starter weapons, but past like level 20 I don't think it was ever an issue for me. Only time it was ever a problem was when I +10'd my Black Knight Axe not thinking about it and couldn't swing it more than 5 times without it exploding.

Sorry for being off topic, but I just bought a PS4 to play the new DS2 and Bloodborne, and the wifi is AWFUL! With my old PS3 I get 2mbps, which is pretty bad considering I get 33mbps on my PC (closer to router though). But on my PS4, on exactly the same spot as the PS3, I get 100kbps, or less. Maybe 40-50k per second. That is crazy. I have to move it next to the router when I need to download stuff, and I sometimes get disconnected while playing DS2 since it cannot verify the license (it says).

Do I need to replace the PS4 or is this expected? LAN is not an option, it would be through multiple rooms. Maybe I should get a repeater of some sort? Never needed this before, so I don't know anything about it.

If a power line adapter doesn't work I would get a wifi bridge. That's what I used for the longest time, and would get near wired speeds with it (the particular one I had had a problem where I had to reset it every few days, but other than that it was great) since it had a 5ghz wifi chip which is infinitely better in my area than 2.4
