adjusted = reduced

some of that stuff did need to get nerfed, but I'm a little concerned with the knee-jerk reaction to stuff that competent players can counter. WoG nerfed again?

it's still prooobably going to be really good, that spell does like 180000000000000000000000 damage

Defenders greatsword is the best greatsword in the game if you run any kind of faith build. The throne watcher sword is the int version, but it's just flat out worse in every way.
It's just so annoying to use because you can't buff it with spells, only its own built-in buff ability which lasts 45 seconds. It's also completely unsustainable in PvE because each cast takes 1/6th of its durability, so you can't use this weapon for anything but PvP which is a little irritating when you want to do something other than that. Or you can use it unbuffed but then you might as well have gone with a regular claymore or something.

I really hate weapons that can't be buffed with the regular weapon buff spells. It almost always fucks the weapon up. Most buffs in this game have too short a duration, it's so fucking annoying to try to use them.

I know it's been nerfed but I really like the Moonlight Greatsword. Upgraded with Magic Infusion (and 50 INT), it does really nice damage and has great reach. I burned a Bonfire thingie to get it and I realized that I need to kill her yet again to get the spell master trophy... I'm down to only needing the 4 magic trophies and some look to be a pain (spell only available to bellbros for example).

I'm about to go into NG+ for the first time. But I'm putting in a TON of prep work before I do. I'm trying to platinum the game so I'm doing exhausting everything I can for NG first and that's really time consuming.

Iirc a +10 magic claymore is just flat better than the moonlight these days. Though to be fair, that's true of nearly every weapon.

4 trophies from Platinum. It's the 4 spell trophies which look to be a major pain in the ass. They require a lot of Covenant grinding or I need to reach NG++ to buy them in the castle (bonfire thingies won't work either).

I finally wrapped everything up I wanted to do on my INT build character and started into NG+. The plan is to push through as quick as possible to try and finish these trophies off and get the platinum.

Found a claymore and upgraded it to +10 and it is a beast. Same or roughly same moveset as Drangleic sword. I love it, will be my main weapon until the end. What should I put on it with the dull ember enchanting guy? Does it matter? I play a sword/shield dude and do no magic.

I went on a tear saturday. Went from Smelter Demon straight through killing Old King -> Going down the hole and beating through the Rotten -> Completing all through Freja/Freya (whatever the name is) -> Into Drangleic Castle now. I think the only two areas I skipped was Belfry Sol and I never found the royal rat authority fight.

If I've just stepped into Drangleic Castle (at the twin dragonriders), how far into the game am I? I am guestimating at 80%

Lightning, dark, or just leave it alone. I probably wouldn't do dark if I couldn't at least cast Dark Weapon on it. What have you been putting points into if not int/faith? If you have a lot of strength, you should not be using a C/C weapon imo.

And yeah, that's about 75% I guess--assuming you've done all four old ones and didn't just unlock Shrine of Winter with 1M+ soul memory.

If you're a pure str/dex build with no magic stats at all the claymore isn't really optimal. It shines with lightning/dark enchant which both require caster stats to scale well. You'd be better off switching to a mastodon greatsword or one of the hammers/clubs if you're riding high physical stats.

So far not having any issues on my NG+ run (first time for me). Killed Last Giant, Pursuer (over by the bonfire when the eagle drops him off), and the two Dragon Knight guys. I've noticed that things are REALLY aggressive in NG+ but the new stuff, so far, hasn't been an issue. A lot of Red Phantoms and the occasional new enemy but nothing I can't handle still. I'll be interested to see the big bosses which actually have new stuff but right now it's pretty much same old, same old.

Heh I was wondering why shrine of winter opened early. I went the wrong way and when it opened I went "hmmm this makes no sense."

I did kill all 4 though so I am in the clear.

I haven't seen any of the other weapons Ronne referred too. I just enjoy the claymore move set. Are they similar?

I should also mention I've been putting a lot into str, end, and a few other minor points in other slots. Using large club +8 was absolutely hilarious on the old iron king as it took like 5 hits. Scorpion lady barely even got to move when I hit her

Mastodon drops from...spiders? In brightstone cove I think. Probably also from the mastodons in drangleic, but that's pretty far in. The dwarves in pharros drop several varieties of really good str scaling hammers and they all enchant with basic titanite. The demon greathammer from giving stones and petrified somethings to the birds is also really solid, but requires twinkling iirc.

Edit: forgot about pursuers ultra greatsword. Super easy to get, has very decent str scaling, but the moveset leaves something to be desired (it's an overhand attack on light attack rather than a sweep). Takes dragonbones to upgrade as well, so I general prefer the standard ultra greatsword over it.

I have the pursuers ultra great sword but not sure i like the move set yet. Is there anything similar to the claymores move set that is B or greater in str scaling?

There's a mastodon greatsword in a chest early on in Drangleic Castle. Behind one of the six doors in that shitfest of a room, if I remember right.

Moveset is a bit different from claymore, but it's still good. And since the str scaling jumps to A at +10, it should do considerably more damage. It's like a foot or so longer than a claymore too.

Also, I don't know if you're deliberately avoiding spells as the theme of your build or you just don't want to spend points on int/faith. If it's the latter, I would use some of that spice you collect to reduce dark weapon down to a useable level. Though I guess that assumes you actually have an attunement slot, which you probably don't if you went the typical melee-only route and started as bandit.

Edit: A "lot" in endurance? It's pretty wasteful to go past the 20 softcap. 1 sta per point is meh.

It's at 20 or below I think.

As for spells I typically enjoy playing melee only in these types of games so I don't put any focus into that. Might not be ideal but I enjoy it.

I'll look for that mastodon sword.

Can always just use the resins if you want to buff your weapon for some extra damage.

I have a feeling the Claymore will last the rest of the game. I have the Mastodon Greatsword but it will take a bit of farming to buff it up enough. I might just use the Claymore and then use my Large Club for bosses.

I'm through Drangleic Castle now and into the next area, Shrine of Amana. Game of the year for me.

Two trophies left. Miracles and Pyromancy ones. I just killed the dual dragonriders so I'm done with all the tedious stuff of NG+. I really haven't screwed around with optional stuff (never did the docks area) but I did take the time to kill the Undead Executioner for the Stamina Regen Ring +2.

Does anyone know how the Shrine of Winter works? I had to beat the four great soul bosses this time around for the NG+ soul drops but would like to just bum rush my way to the Castle on NG++ so I can buy the spells I need (I know I'll need a Fragrant Branch to unlock the path). I'm just under 7 million soul memory if that matters.

I finally got a Claymore and infused it with Magic and upgraded it to +10 and, sadly, it is better than the Moonlight Greatsword. It's not much better but it's better enough.
