I'm sure the hordes of people providing data about poise not working don't know what they are talking about and Kriptini is the armor whisperer.

PS L2edit instead of triple post

This is incorrect. Player control returns after the second hit. That's why you can parry the third hit on R1 longsword spammers.

Also, sorry for the triple post. I'm on phone and multiquote sucks here.
Hrm good to know. But everyone who invaded me was hopelessly bad that I didn't get much of a handle on any nuances of PVP mechanics here. And I'm on PC so for now, offline mode...

Basically I went whatever armor I could squeeze into + exile's helm + havel's shield + sunlight straight sword and goddamn demolished everyone.

I was probably naturally resetting sta and waiting for the next greatshield block + spam rape after a few swings.

Krip that's not the only article, just one of a myriad
I'm just speaking in response to the Loltaku article Noodle linked me. In that article, the author assumed that poise in DS3 is supposed to work the way poise did in DS1, which is not an intuitive conclusion considering that poise was changed to only apply to wind-ups in DS2 and it worked the same way in Bloodborne. My initial assumption is that it works the same way in DS3 as it did in DS2 and Bloodborne. So unless "hyper armor" is tied to the weapon being wielded (which is possible as I have not looked at any of the data beyond that article), then poise does exist.

Hyper armor is indeed tied to the weapon, and mostly to the size of it. Being fully naked with an ultra greatsword you won't get staggered out of attack animations as long as you've started it before getting hit.

You'll take an asston of damage cause of the way armor and mitigation works, but that's a different matter.

Yeah, its a good game.

Although I went back and started a DS2 run and I have to say that DS3 might have it on Combat speed / feel as it hits a nice balance between BB and the souls series DS2 really shines after a playthrough of DS3. More, smaller areas but still pretty well designed I guess? Actually viable mage only builds in addition to have melee options?

I really enjoyed Ds3 but going back and playing DS2 again has been more fun than I thought it would be. I think the ending areas in DS3 really ding the game overall. Screams "we ran out of time here are some bon fires and bosses to kill thanks for your money". The last 1/3 of DS3 goes really really fast.
I fully realize that it's probably my shitty gaming skills that attributes to this, but how do you go back through DS2 and not feel like everything just takes forever. Every single encounter with guys, to me, was epic. Often times dying a lot. Not just boss fights. The trash fights got a little easier, but I died at least over a dozen times to the turtle shell looking dudes. Then I finally got a little further, to that room where 3 ballistae are setup to ambush you, and it was another epic fight. Are you literally good enough at it at this point that you just fly through that stuff without much trouble?

Well, a lot of us already have like 100+ hours in DS2 between the original and scholars relaunch, so sure, plenty of the areas are pretty well figured out.

I honestly don't know how someone not already familiar with DS2 is supposed to play scholar from scratch. They added so much pure rape to the game I don't know where an actual new player even starts.

I'm really not that great a souls player. I'm persistent and ok at the game but hardly very good or even good IMO. I finish them and do so so because I'm careful, not greedy on my attacks and when I fuck up I tend to learn and or only repeat the fuck up a handful of times before I learn. These games are meant to kill you so I really try and not rage too bad when I die and lose 74k souls to something stupid. Naturally I rage but who doesn't?

Really, the vast majority of these kinds of games is just taking it slow and learning the move set of the enemy. Shit, you can probably categorize the strats for kill 95% of the mobs in game with 1 move. Bait attack, dodge roll forward and behind them while locked and attacking. Don't be greedy against hard opponents or enemies with large, wide swing arc weapons.

In the case of DS3 you can literally walk up to most of the encounters and back stab the first guy or all the guys in large groups even at times making things much easier. Single pull with throwing knives or spells etc. People that just run in and "loldps" have to fight 2 or 3+ things. Patient type that slowly walk in can often times drop things one by one.

Most mobs fall into 2 categories. 1 attack and long delay to attack again or 3 to 4 attacks with a moderately short delay. Bosses usually add a melee or ranged fuck you spell or sweep or drop. Key is to not be overly aggressive unless you can stagger a foe and really clutch is not dodging excessively for no reason. Circle strafe is your friend with a timed dodge when the attack is visible.

I think people that have issues playing these games get panicked, tend to drain down stamina needlessly, try and be overly aggressive and play in the stress fog. Playing the game but so caught up in the stress and the alleged difficulty they don't pay enough attention to what is going on around them. They end up with tunnel vision and burn their stamina, estus and miss the ledges below them or the off the beaten path areas because they are so stressed and focused on only what is directly in front of them. Then don't notice the moves of the enemies or that they are all repeated over and over because the difficulty gets them frazzled. They don't realize that the encounter is designed for you to only hit the thing once or twice and repeat.

Crone just check out the speed runs. Guys are beating all bosses in under an hour and a half.

The first playthrough is slow and steady but subsequent playthrough are usually pretty quick. Additionally a lot of us have been playing since des or ds1, and the skill required is basically the same for all the games so it's very second nature after awhile.

Buying a ton of shit on Amazon. Do I need to play through DS1 and 2 to do 3? Should I play DeS?

What the fuck, venerable Dr? Didn't you play the ever living shit out of Bloodborne and love the fuck out of it? Sheeeeit, play the Souls games. Two of them are better than BB imo, and the other isn't any worse.

From one doctor to another...do it.

To elabotate -

DeS: I don't know. I've expounded upon its datedness before on this thread, but it may well be the best.

Dark Souls: I imagine that within ten years, it'll largely be considered the best game ever made. It's the apex of video game level design and has singular art direction. It seems like every few months another video game publication declares it their favorite game of all time.

Dark Souls 2: Most people consider it the worst in the series, but I've found it gets better with every playthrough. It's also by far the longest, even without the DLC. Still a masterpiece, and honestly, it gains ground on its forebears and progeny every time I play it.

Bloodborne is still my favorite of the series, with the caveat that I never played dark souls 1. Demon souls was just too plodding for me

I think I enjoyed the aspect of having the option for multiplayer while playing through Bloodborne. I had tried Demon Souls before and got utterly wrecked. But, I think since playing Bloodborne, I am able to better deal with dying 60+ times before getting to a boss. Lol. Did they also close servers down for DeS, DS1 and 2?

Bloodborne might have been the best if it wasn't a goddamn PS4 exclusive. The shit tier framerate just ruined that game for me. I'm not usually one to be such a stickler for it when it comes to console games, but in a game look Souls/Bloodborne it's just fucking murder for my enjoyment. Nevermind the fact that there were plenty of spots where the game could barely maintain 20fps, much less 30.

Nearing the end of my pyro playthrough, great chaos fire orb fucking wrecks. I dunno if Gundyr is randomly weak to fire but like 7 casts of it killed him heh.

Nameless King down and I've beaten all the bosses now. Kalameet is still my favorite and hardest Dark Souls boss out of all the games for me.

At the last boss finally. Got him to 50% on the second phase on first attempt but gotta go to bed. Princes took me about 4 attempts, I think the worst part was the run back to them each time.

Im at 24:30 for time, I feel this is the shortest in the series. I didn't do the dragon peak yet, but I don't see that adding a significant amount of time.
