Is the DC Universe in trouble? A recent rumor indicates that test screenings for the upcoming reboot don’t spell well for James Gunn’s Superman.
DC Universe fans have been riding high ever since the first trailer for Superman hit the net. While there were some small critiques about the color grading and general tone of the footage shown off for the reboot, the general consensus was that James Gunn had another hit on his hands.
However, it seems that not everyone is as confident about the film. A recent rumor from The Hot Mic suggests that the DC Universe’s inaugural film may be having some trouble at test screenings. According to host Jeff Sneider, he’s heard things that should make fans worry about the quality of Superman. However, he does add that James Gunn is aware of the reported shortcomings of the upcoming reboot.
“The buzz is not good,” Sneider explained in the recent edition of his podcast. “I’m hearing bad things. I’m hearing ‘you should be worried things.’ Now, there’s a lot of time between now and July. It sounds like James Gunn is aware of some of the feedback.”
“Someone who’s seen Superman told me it has the tone of the first Captain America movie and the Mummy films. They said Nicholas Hoult is the standout and the film is ‘decent’ but a large chunk of the film was unfinished with only a third of the film’s VFX done.”
Yet just like any rumor, it’s important to take these reports on test screenings with a grain of salt. Other outlets such as ComicBookMovie.com and BigScreenLeaks have painted a much more positive image of Superman in its early screenings. Though with the project still over half a year out, and an entire DC Universe hanging in the balance, hopefully James Gunn is able to polish the film so that it appeals to everyone.

Are Superman Test Screenings Going Well?
This slightly dour tone on test screenings was corroborated by Jeff Sneider’s co-host John Rocha. In his own part of the rumor, Rocha revealed that Superman has a tone similar to Captain America: The First Avenger, while stating that he’s heard the reboot is simply decent, not bad. He also pointed out that the VFX on the DC Universe project is only a third of the way done, something that’s actually rather ahead of the curve for blockbuster films seven months from release.“Someone who’s seen Superman told me it has the tone of the first Captain America movie and the Mummy films. They said Nicholas Hoult is the standout and the film is ‘decent’ but a large chunk of the film was unfinished with only a third of the film’s VFX done.”
