Wait there's a semi-shared-world sort of thing going on here kinda like Dark Souls? Just saw a streamer that came across a rope that had been left by someone else and they 'liked' them for it.
once you reach a hub location you "unlock" shared stuff around it. Its not a persistent world/server or anything like Minecraft, it just unlocks things other people have crafted around you - ladders, bridges, notes, etc.
Its not 100% of everything everyone has done, that would look ludicrous, just presumably some algorithm picks out a few things and it doesn't constantly shift under you, stays the same from what I understand. So yeah, very much like the notes people can leave for others in Dark Souls but NO pvp or anything like that. You can like other peoples stuff, friend them, etc and there are some in game systems that give you bonuses and stuff the more likes and links you get. Its very much supposed to be a metaphor for social media, but a more "positive" version i guess where instead of a meme an actual ladder or bridge you built gets you "likes" and bonds of friendship. just typing that made me throw up a little in my mouth.
also the shared stuff works better online but it still populates if you are 100% offline, some dude played with a PS4 disconnected and it still populated shared ladders and stuff but used generic NPC names as creators.
Visuals really are amazing though, the amelie chick, who is based on Lindsey Wagner (OG Bionic Woman) looks amazing. Game is 50 gig install, 1 gig day 1 patch. In almost 2 hours of watching its been about 90 mins of cutscenes, 25 mins of walking with cargo, and 5 mins of stealthing past stuff. The story looks stupid as hell though, I dunno if its a japanese <> english thing but character NPC names are the dumbest things I've seen since a nintendo game.
