We use Lenovo Thinkpads, they do fine for taking to and from work with the dock being used.

If you want something you can game on and seems low key id say a 2018+ Legion, or Razer Blade. However they arent really cheap but they dont look like mobile rainbow stations and exteriors are nice and sleek.

Or a decked out Surface Laptop w/ the 1060? something like that.

I'd go laptop with a dock... either lenovo T490 or a dell XPS13. Lenovo's have been pretty solid for me, but I've got a P51.

edit: Actually, I forgot about the Surface laptops. MS has been doing a damn fine job with them, and I'd recommend checking the lineup out.

Saw the Fractal Design Era ITX case today. Would have been nice with the small form factor but it seems it has a lot of issues with the cooling, at least with the GPU wedged down in the bottom of the case. Hopefull it will get an improved version later on because I really liked the tiny case and design.

Can confirm Razer Blade is a nice laptop. I almost have my new desk area set up to plug mine in to 2nd monitor.

The Lenovo stuff was even worse than spyware. It was hidden in the BIOS with call home features.

It's amazing how crass that was and the fact that they thought no one would notice. A BIOS that reinstalls user unistalled software without permission? What could ever go wrong with that? I had Thinkpads before that, and switched the XPS aftwerwards. Sure, Lenovo stopped, but the damage they did was permanent.

If you're just doing spreadsheets and excell, just try to get something cheap that only uses solid state storage. Those shitty laptop hard drives often cost more to recover data from than the laptops themselves.

With that said, Ryzen 4000 series laptops are supposed to be insane performance per dollar and in battery life; but not cheap or easy to find.

Dell Latitudes if you want business laptops, or the Dell small (not micro) formfactor desktops if you want desktops.

I use a Dell latitude and they're very nice. Our engineering machines, which are the super beefed up latitudes are insane

Ugh Dell, i could never allow one in my house!
They're nothing like when they were producing cheap crap before Michael Dell brought the company private again. Even their cheapest crap is better than most, and their premium crap is pretty decent.

My first quad core was a Dell. Core two quad or whatever the fuck it was. Picked it up from their business website for like $650 and it even came with a flat screen, this was back when flat screen thing was all fresh and new lol. Back then it was a deal, could not build the same and flat screen for the price. Plugged in a video card in it and it served me well for a few years. My kids took over after.

We used to use dells in our office, but recently we switched to lenovo for our engineering/cad stations because of cost. Same shit though. Xenon 6/12 core, maybe even 8/16 now have not checked the recent ones, 32 gb ram, nvidia quattro video card, ssds.etc... I think the ones that run the simulations (crash, head impact, etc..) have dual xenons in them.

Stealing jooka jooka thunder here, since he mentioned it 1st in the 3080 thread. These benchmarks are sick!

  • 30.98% better than a stock RTX 2080 Ti Founders Edition
  • 21.07% better than a stock MSI RTX 2080 Ti Lightning Z
  • 22.14% better than a stock Nvidia Titan RTX
  • 8.30% better than the best Nvidia Titan V result under LN2
  • 2.18% less than KINGPIN’s overclocked EVGA RTX 2080 Ti XC
