Think I found my next computer...
I used to have a few Pi's connected to the TV for youtube/plex and other apps. But since the TV apps got better i hardly use them. Cheap and fun though.

With heavy help from Jovec i built a new rig, but I'm running into an issues.

Occasionally my internet drops out. It's not my modem, and when I hit the Troubleshoot connection, it says PC not assigned an IP address. I've tried ipconfig /release and ipconfig /renew, but it's still happening occasionally. Obviously this makes playing PoE or doing Zoom calls a problem when I drop out for a minute or so at a time.

Any idea?

Have you checked your network drivers? Make sure you get the ones from the mobo manufacturer if it's not a separate card. Otherwise maybe you could try assigning you PC a static IP through the router, but if everything worked fine before the new PC it's probably not the router's fault. Wouldn't hurt to check for new firmware though.

Doing this now, worst case I'll reinstall the drivers

CyberPowerPC arrived couple weeks ago. Went from a 2016 Core-I5 / Gforce 1060 to Ryzen-5 5600X / RX-6800.

Massive upgrade and super impressed with it so far. Never went full AMD before but the price-performance is there right now. Also every CyberPower case / fans / lighting looks great.

Husband's 11+ year old computer is, understandably, shitting the bed and even simple stuff like getting sound to consistently come out of it when using discord and a browser is becoming difficult for it. Perusing around at some budget builds, is it just me, or are individual parts kind of a shit show right now in terms of price and availability? I haven't bought a pre-built in probably 20 years, are there any decent sellers these days? Other than the markup for building/wiring it up, how are the prices vs. the individual cost of the parts? Aiming for something in the $5-800 range that can at least play more recent titles; no 4k, no VR, none of the fancy shit if anyone has any recommendations for a build or a pre-built around that. Also, something easy to upgrade later on.

This site has some budget PCs. $679 for a GTX 1650, Ryzen 5, and an SSD.

HP Pavilion Gaming Computer; AMD Ryzen 5 3500 3.6GHz Processor; NVIDIA GTX 1650 4GB GDDR5; 8GB DDR4-2666 RAM; 512GB SSD; - Micro Center

Maybe a silly question but have you actually checked your IP settings? Maybe it's not set to DHCP, and only partially filled out IP config?

I did check, and it was set.

Reinstalling my drivers, and using ipconfig etc again, and rebooting, seems to have fixed it. Thank you all for the help

why don't you just get a 2tb nvme? price is the same

also, if you must have a dvd, imo get an external usb one, most cases now are saying fuck it to 5 1/4 drives

What case are you going to use? As already said, skip the internal Optical drive and go USB. Depending on the case, you might need a different CPU cooler, and you'll need more fans. The Lian Li cases whether the Lancool ii mesh, or O11D can hold up to 9 fans and no reason not to use up all the space. I'd probably go ddr4-3600 RAM CL18. Probably won't notice much difference there though.

So I installed the BeQuiet Lanx Lanx

This thing is huge. I’m thinking about just moving the rear fan to the top of the case. Is the rear fan even going to be doing anything with two big fans blowing an inch away right into it?

idk, i say keep it, i have my pc in a way that it's almost a stool, and when i play cyberpunk i feel a lot of heat coming out from the fan, at least this way it's "directing the heat out.

honestly, i think youre supposed to flip the cpu cooler 180, i've never seen an install like that.

if youre worried about the outer fan blocking the system ram, you can always move the fan up, thats why the outer fan is a smaller 120mm, while the inner fan is a 140mm

I can flip it but it would be blowing the heat into the case, why not direct it out?

Which case is that? Can you replace the rear fan with a 140MM? If so, do that, then also add a 140MM above it, depending on how much air intake you have from the front.
