So once i get my desktop fixed, I was going to use a DVI to HDMI cable to run my computer through my receiver to my 60" TV to game.

But then I have to figure out sound. I'd always used the soundcard on the motherboard. So any ideas how to make that work?
Probably obvious, but you don't have HDMI output from your GPU? Anything from AMD's 4000 series and Nvidia's 500 series will have HDMI audio. Barring that, what inputs do you have on your TV? Mine, for example, has a PC-in (VGA) with 3.5mm audio in.

They just need to get better at multithreading shit.

Did you take a look at what intel is offering at a server level ? I had to setup a server for a client and it was running 2 xE7-2860. I had no idea such monsters were available since Q1 2011. The tech's been here for a years, now we just need the software to take advantage of it and hopefully the 8 core architecture of the new consoles will make this happen.

Did you really put a 2012 server machine into production? I don't think I've ever worked for a place that would upgrade to the latest server version without waiting at least two years lol.

I had the same issue. I used my ipod dock soundbar as a speaker using... 3.5mm cable I think? Whatever fit into the unit. I plugged that into the headphone jack on my PC.

I know, made me cringe also. They had no fucking clue what they were buying, they had some money and decided to "upgrade servers". We just won the bid, we didn't have any say in the matter.

There are worse things out there than Server 2012, although anyone who uses it in a business pre-SP1 kinda scares me.

I have been watching prices on 7850 for a while, and now Nvidia has put out the 650ti boost which looks pretty nice, much better than the original 650, so I ask which do I go for? Or should I be looking at something else entirely, I want to keep it around 180 or less on price.

What resolution? If I were you Id save a few bucks more and get the 660non ti or the 7870. If you are hard up between those two I would chose thre 7850 since ATI gives you more bang for the buck in the mid to low range cards than Nvidia.

Resolution is just 1920x1080 so no worries there, I'll take a look at 660, last time i looked i thought the 7870 was pricier but ill have another peek.

At 1080p, just get whichever card is the cheapest. My AMD 6970 still runs games at max settings.

For anyone wanting a super wide-screen gaming experience without having to actually deal with multiple monitors and the bezels that seperate them, this is kind of interesting, and a pretty reasonable price for a Dell monitor of that size

$500 2560x1080 monitor, what Dell calls "Ultra Wide"

That's pretty interesting. Although it's a bit deceptive, as it has less screen area than a 27" 16:9 monitor, and not a whole lot more than a 24" 16:10. I think I'd probably go with a 27" were I to upgrade my 24" Dell.

Really been looking at that monitor - wish I knew someone who had one already so I could play on it.

From what little I can tell, it's roughly the same height as a 23/24" monitor, but about 30-40% wider or so. Kinda like having a 23" monitor and a half.

Not really, at least as far as 24" goes:

24" 16:10 - 20.35" x 12.72" = ~260 square inches

27" 16:9 - 23.49" x 13.22" = ~310 square inches

29" 21:9 - 26.49" x 11.17" = ~295 square inches

I don't think I'd want to give up the full inch and a half on the height vs. a 24"

While the physical size isn't massively different, the viewable resolution/pixels is about 33% bigger(2560 horizontal pixels vs 1920). I'd have to assume the screen as a whole is packing a better pixel-per-inch density than a standard 1080p 23" or 24" monitor. I'm too lazy to do that math though, lol.

I have both the 29" wide Dell above (2560x1080) and a 27" korean (2560x1440) on different PCs and I would highly recommend the 2560x1440 ones instead. The wide screen is cool, especially having multi browser/video/etc windows side by side, but the higher vertical rez is more useful most of the time. That price is insane though, I paid like $600 on a big discount like six months ago.

Its a bit annoying in some games too, like starcraft 2 won't do 2560x1080. Most PC games do it fine, like Skyrim, Wow, Hitman, Guild Wars 2, TERA, etc.

Any opinions on either of the first 3 Vanquish desktops from Digital Storm?http://http://www.digitalstormonline.com/vanquish.asp

I have been planning on trying my hand at building my own but I know next to nothing about the process and their prices don't seem too far off for what they are offering. I mainly just want something to play the next crop of MMO's on the horizon (FFXIV, Wildstar andmaybeESO) with great quality/performance. Not really trying to break the bank but also too lazy/technologically ignorant to surf around for deals on separate components so these pre made seem enticing. Also not familiar with AMD but I know a vocal few who swear against.

Any thoughts?
