Damn, I didn't pre-order the devil's canyon i5 4690k, because I wanted to order all my parts together in one package... and the CPU is sold out at amazon and newegg, lol. Looks like they still have some at tiger direct though.. hrmn. Shit is selling like hotcakes apparently.

Edit: Right after I posted newegg got some more. :p

It's kind of strange that with a demand for rigs with this kind of performance no one is out there pre-assembling them for sale.

I've became so lazy in my old age I only learn how to do new things if I have to haha.

No single company makes all the parts you'd want in a single rig. So you get PC vendors who partner with one or two and market theirs with some parts you like for a jacked up price but it'd still be cheaper buying individually and assembling yourself.

It's $50 to get a new PC built at any decent dorkshop in any city in North America.

If you buy a pre-built, expect to pay ~$1350 for something you could get assembled for you for $1000, and you'll get lower quality parts. It's that simple. Is it worth it to you to pay 30-40% more for your rig to just save yourself a couple trips to the local strip mall?

Hell... tell me what city you live in and I'll find a computer shop FOR you. Anything to prevent people from patronizing the pre-built-scam-artists that are out there.

Here is an $800 build I put together for you. Compare it to the pre-build Abefroman posted and you'll see what I mean:Intel Core i5-4460, EVGA GeForce GTX 770, NZXT Source 210 (White) - System Build - PCPartPicker

In this case, the prebuilt option will cost you 22% more. It will have a video card that is 15% slower than the one I selected for you. It has a terrible build quality H81 motherboard. Mine comes with a 120gig SSD that is the single best quality of life improvement for a new rig IMO...the prebuilt? Nope. The prebuilt has made a bizarre CPU choice that seems unnecessarily expensive...

Even if you pay the $50 to get it built rather than doing it yourself, you come out way way ahead.

Honestly, if you can't put a PC together, you can't assemble anything that comes with directions for assembly. If you can put together a store-bought bookshelf, you can put together a PC. If you can hook up your home theater system, you can build a PC.

IMO the hardest part about building your own PC is getting the OS installed. And that's become pretty damn easy since Win7. Fuck SATA drivers on WinXP, seriously.

You probably won't notice a difference but I've heard conflicting reports on the Ares series being a piece of shit.

Hardest part is figuring out where certain wires go on the motherboard headers, like front panel audio, front panel USB, and the LED lights, fan controller, etc.

But the parts most people think would be hard, like mounting the motherboard, seating the CPU, etc, those parts are all super easy.

Other hard part is BIOS settings, and getting all the drivers installed correctly.

However, if you buy a prebuilt, you spend days getting all the shovelware removed.
