yeah don't also take the final exotic engram from zavala for finishing the story campaign, it will level up with you so if you take it at like 265+ it'll be a better choice than when you first finish the story campaign at like 230. the best grind from 240-265 is just grinding public events on Titan, as soon as you finish one PE (try to flip it to heroic) fast travel immediately to the same zone and you can get lucky and get put into someone who is still finishing their PE, I've gotten 3-4 PEs in a row that way and then when I fast travel to the next zone over its just 1-2 mins to the next PE. Do that for 4-5 hours and you will level up from 240 to 265.

Save all your planetary tokens until you pass the soft cap of 265. You can get a decent bump that way. I’d honestly save the planetary quests until after 290, but if you feel stuck do them eaflier. Having a 305 Mida is basically one of the best endgame guns this meta.

Oh, and I can’t stress this enough.

SAVE 5 RARE AND/OR LEGENDARY SCOUT RIFLES TO DESTROY FOR MIDA QUEST.

Meh in reality all that shit is cool and all, but power level does not mean shit bros. Once youre 280+ it really does not matter unless prestige raid or prestige nightfall which is 300 and I personally have not done either. So I am not going to stress too much on hitting 305 this time around. It comes with the weekly updates and weekly milestones anyway and it gives you something to do when the game resets every week.

also throughout the campaign zavalla gives you a choice of 3 weapons, AR, scout and pulse rifle. the scout is one of best in game for PvE, and is no slouch in PvP either. The AR is also top tier, so choose wisely. Pulse is not meta right now, but im sure when meta changes it might be good so its a 3rd choice.

Also running some strikes is good too because some of the vanguard weapons are best in class until you get raid shit so dont listen to peeps saying dont run strikes because useless. Like the rocket launcher for both PvP and PvE and fusion which is undoubtedly best in class tier PvP weapon. The thing is like a lazer also of course is the AR and scout too, depending on which you choose for zavalla reward.

Now meta on PC might be a bit different because of no aim assist, but im sure it will be close to console so weapons to keep an eye out for are...

Uriels Gift- High cal rounds laser stability and godly range for AR
Antiope-D- SMG primary with Kill clip perk. Rare drop from gunsmith, so keep an eye out. Best in class SMG.
Better Devils- Great hand cannon for both PvP and PvE, explosive rounds
The Old fashioned- great for PvP
Scatherlocke- High cal rounds and 600rpm and great stability for PvP
Omlon type sidearms. Last Dance, Last Hope... 3 burst variety which have the lowest TTK in PvP in game. People hate on people using them in PvP though because they require no fucking skill to use hehe.
Black Scorpion 4SR-Fast shooting scout, great for PvP rare drop from gunsmith.

For the faction rally, which will hit like week 2 or 3, go FWC, great AR, great hand cannon, and one of best energy slot scouts. now I had all 3 characters by that time so I chose all 3 for the fashion, but undoubtedly FWC has the best guns. I think Dead orbit has a good hand cannon which is like old fashion but a bit better, and New monarchy has best in class shot gun for PvP. All other shit is garbage.

But its a good idea to keep some of those shit tier weapons in the vault though because you never know. In D1, bungie liked to reshuffle the meta, buffing some guns while nerfing others to change shit up for PvP, so some of those trash tier weapons might turn into godly. But well see in D2.

Here is a breakdown of weapons and TTK and all that for those who like PvP...

I couldn't find it on that sheet, I may have missed it, but it didn't seem to account for explosive rounds?

That sheet is mainly for PVP, so explosive rounds dont really matter for PVP. Cumulative DMG from explosive plus regular damage equals out to other weapons. So for instance the Nameless Midnight will do 30 head shot dmg plus 14 explosive dmg to equal out to midas 44 headshot dmg.(not actual figures, but close) If you want PvE breakdowns, im sure they are out there, but im kind of thinking its the same shit with Pve as well. Lower base dmg but added exposive dmg equals out in the end.

Thanks for all the info guys. I definitely wouldn't have held on to old scout rifles, or thought of fast traveling for PE's. Nice!

Not even close really. Explosive rounds is godtier against everything except one specific situation. Either yellow or orange mob headshots are only "just as good" as other weapons, I can't remember which and too lazy to dig up the reddit post with data. Everything else it's ahead by a large margin.

And I'm not sure why I've had to correct this every single time a leveling guide has been posted here, but PE blues only take you to 260, not 265. You have to get past 260 using vendor tokens (to 265) and Xur (to 267/268 depending on slot he sells) if you want maximum efficiency. Regarding Zavala's exotic engram, you can pick it up and not decode it and it will still go up in power level. If you don't pick it up at all it cockblocks you from doing practically all of the endgame content.

Edit: Since the rest was covered, might as well talk about the most important part too. Getting from 267-280 is a long, slow, shitty grind that involves accepting ONE powerful reward, praying to RNGesus that it's for a slot you actually need an upgrade in, and then going out and upgrading all your other slots that can be upgraded with blues based on your new base power level. Rinse and repeat until you're done with shit to do for the week. Beyond that point, only exotic engrams can get you further until Tuesday rolls around again.

As for quests, I advise using the first set to get yourself to 280, which means making sure you do them either at the end of week 1 after all other powerful rewards are exhausted, or even push them off to week 2. Exotics are not ideal for boosting base power so it's best if you use the first MIDA to boost a Nameless Midnight and the first Sturm/Rat King to boost an Annual Skate or whatever other energy hand cannon you have. Or you can do Better Devils primary and Manannan SR4 in energy. Whatever you prefer.

280 gets you access to purple mods from Banshee. As others mentioned anything past that is basically pointless. Unless you're dead set on doing hard mode nightfall and raid, it will probably be much easier to gain power level with a higher cap after DLC1 is out in December.

Edit 2: Forgot to mention, there's no Xur in week 1 of release so that will make things more difficult. I'd just get to NF level in week 1 and get it done, then make alts (of different classes).

Well one of the interesting things is that the damage from explosive rounds isn't hurt by range. So 14 damage from explosive rounds will do the same at point blank as well as across the map.

Best support class (they dont really exist in destiny) would probably be warlock with healing rifts. Probably best all around class for PvP and PvE, IMO.

They all have solid uses, and you should make one of each class for sure.

Titan - I really only like Striker at all. Pulse grenades are crazy OP. Sunbreaker has an extremely specific niche with the Hallowfire Heart exotic when the NF has the mod that constantly recharges your powers. Defender is huge disappointment imo after how much I liked the subclass in D1.

Warlock - Stormcaller is great for grouping with empowered rift and arc soul. Voidwalker is nigh unkillable if there's any trash around to keep Devour going, and even better with Winter's Guile exotic... fucking hate the super though, and the sub isn't great for groups unless you're still able to get most of the kills. Dawnblade is utterly worthless.

Hunter - By far the strongest solo class* for running around planets doing PEs when you constantly find yourself alone because Destiny 2's matchmaking is total fucking garbage, and arguably the most useful for grouping up to the NF level. Arcstrider's super does massively more damage than any other class if you have Raiden Flux (which you absolutely must take as quest reward while leveling) *AND* it stunlocks bosses. Nightstalker has a solid niche with Orpheus Rig anytime there's a lot of trash running around (PEs, especially). I hate gunslinger, only useful if you need a super and can't safely get close enough to use arcstrider.

Bear in mind, that's PVE only. I give -1000 fucks about Destiny PVP.

*-Devour Warlock with Winter's Guile might be stronger if you can reliably stack the buff and then go punch a boss, but I never had that exotic until this week.

yeah, plan on rolling all 3 classes its pretty quick you can power through the campaign in under 5 hours the second/third time through so its literally a no brainer. Pick up Sunshot (exotic) and Nameless Midnight (scout) the first time through as those are fantastic weapons, then Origin Story (AR) and ?? the second time through, and then whatever the third option is the third time through. Install Destiny Inventory Manager into chrome and you can move stuff around between chars in your browser while playing, ez peasy.

Vorph's guide above is the best, most of us have slightly wrong info since we did it all in week 1 or 2. The weeks are gonna be smashed together faster on PC release, since both the raid and Trails release in week 2 and prestige comes out week 3 etc etc. You could probably be completely at 305 by the end of week 2 and be done with the game more or less. I'll add a link on the second post to it
Destiny 2 - Clan Link 1st Post

If you don't have a clan the FOH overflow clan is available, you should definitely join a clan at level 20 since you get a free powerful engram just for getting 5k XP a week (easy) so its free loot.

Nameless Midnight is a beast of a Scout in PvE. Definitely get that when presented as a reward IMO.

Also, new PC folks - please sign up for the Clan - Fires Of Heaven II

We could use as many people we can get, mostly for those weekly engrams but also for the perks. Need ~20 characters contributing a week to reach max level in 6 weeks.

Yeah, it's possible they'll just get Xur on week 1. I assume it was delayed for console because Bungie didn't want people to complain that they didn't have shards to buy shit. Since PC is syncing up with console immediately people will complain if they don't get to buy what he's selling when they do have shards for it and that's worse than the alternative.

Some notes on alts:
1. You get bumped to 20 as soon as you finish the main quest. If you really want to rush it, don't sit in PEs for hours and level to 20 before starting the story, just rush through the story and get to the final mission series around L16.

2. The shittiest part of the grind is getting from ~200 to 260. It's nothing but tiny incremental upgrades and the only positive thing about it is that you get a lot of tokens from doing PEs. Your gear sucks and you're entirely reliant on other people showing up to the events to assist. Ideally, you should group up with clan people to ensure that's never an issue. Even so, you really want to get your weapons as high level as possible before starting your alts. Equipping 3 guns that are in the 265-285 range immediately upon hitting 20 cuts a huge part out of the grind back to ~270.

Keep in mind for PC the recoil mechanic is going to be vastly different than on console, so current meta of guns may be completely different as well

People say Hunter isn't great on raid but last week running through multiple Calus attempts I broke 1M damage on him multiple times when others were giving 4-600k. Golden gun + celestial nighthawk = 3-400k in a single shot depending on skull stacks.

Also have no problems killing bathers or dogs, though I do feel a little squishy in throne room because of our shitty armor stats.

not correct. my first two characters got to 20 while i still had a few missions left of the main story. i had heard that they get bumped to 20 when you finished the storyline, so i made sure to focus just on the story for my 3rd character. i finished the story at 18 and had to go do PE's to get to 20.
