Lithgow was fucking awesome.
I'm not sure how I feel about this spinoff since New Blood was meh... even with Clancy Brown being awesome.

This might be decent since Michael C. Hall's creative input is significantly reduced.

Clyde does whatever Michael C. Hall says, so him having less input gives this a chance. As for the sequel series to New Blood coming out later next year? That'll be certified trash.

This was aight. Pretty much standard Dexter unlike that abomination of a few years ago.

It was dumb. The sister somehow suddenly believes that Dexter is her true love because he was always there for her. She confesses her feelings and Dexter isn't interested and she finds out he's a serial killer around the same time so she's all conflicted.

In the hands of very skilled writers this maybe could have been something but there was absolutely no build up to it before the season it happened and it was all written very stupidly.
I'm binge watching Dexter on Netflix, never seen it before.

What. The. Fuck. Not sure I can carry on, it's vomit inducing.

I even joked about them not being blood related to my wife seasons before.

They weren't were they? Wasn't he adopted. The writing went to shit when those 2 started fucking in real life. Her character became the centerpiece of the show but the actress was pretty dull. Probably great in the sack though.

Yeah my wife mentioned a WTF moment in later seasons as she had seen it before, my first thought was "he's adopted, do they fuck?" because her character is cringe inappropriate relationships.

Actually I think the actress is too good/interesting, because when she had the sex dream about Dexter I wanted to throw up.

It's not like Cersei Lannister in GoT where it's much worse incest in multiple different ways but the actors don't really sell the romance/fucking angle as much.

The retcon of who Harry was as a person is the biggest continuity flaw. Harry had a firm almost religious-like belief that some criminals were irredeemable and needed to die. I get why they couldn't portray the Harry from original Dexter canon because it would kill the happy go-lucky family man dynamic. But they did a really poor job with the scenes pertaining to Dexter's first kills and Harry's reactions. People will be confused if they watch the prequel first and then watch Dexter.

But other than that it's standard mediocre Dexter. Masuka does a good job and has the laugh down. Everyone save for Laguerta/Harry is doing a decent impression of the original cast.

I cant put my finger on why. But Dexter in the original somehow came across as a sympathetic character. I know it makes no sense but somehow he did.

This guy playing the younger Dexter - he gets a lot of things right and its not a terrible show.

But somehow he doesnt capture that sympathetic character aspect at all. I don't know why, but half a dozen episodes in, I have the same impression every time.

Canon Dexter came across as in anguish in day to day life. Every interaction he barely got by. Just getting by. That's something you can be sympathetic to. This young Dexter just comes across as a little awkward. He stumbles through interactions sometimes, but he's not tortured or pained by daily life. He's super confident and assertive to almost being a bro. They even give him bro stuff to do. Bro Dexter just isn't that interesting.

The lack of evoked emotion and feeling toward the young Dexter tracks with the Harry portrayal which is equally empty. They're doing their job, but the job was apparently to keep it simple and vanilla. This is a "Disney+" version of Dexter. Joe Pantolino was the only time I ever felt something this season. That's due to his acting chops but it highlighted how little you really give a fuck about any of the Original Sin cast. It's all Leonardo point at TV stuff "Look how good that Masuka was!!! That's the laugh!!!" Shit like that doesn't carry a show, it's just nostalgia fumes. Doing impressions of the original cast isn't enough to make a compelling show. People just point at it and compare the impression and move on.

Haven't seen Original Sin since I'm only on S7 of the original show so this could be wildly wrong and already defined in the show.

But I suspect that "Dark Passenger" Harry is also flashback Harry and Dexter just imagined that real Harry was telling him to be a killer. Then he shows real Harry his first kill and Harry kils himself in shock.

Harry probably just thought that Dexter was his biological son and it was before DNA or it being widespread to confirm.

Ok this wasn't super terrible, wasn't good though. Some forced gay of course cus its 2025 who cares if the show is taking place in the late 80s/early 90s

as some mentioned the worst part is all the retcons. who Harry was, his relationship with Dexter, who knew what when, etc Dexter's entire past is basically retcon'd, but more the Ice Truck Killers entire storyline is changed, both kids are aged up as well so it makes it make even less sense.

Better than that atrocious Dexter on Ice (10 years later) shit they came out with a few years ago, but worse than even the worst season of the original series (season 8)

I forgot to post, ending of S8 was dumb. Dexter is super smart until plot needs to happen, Deb is super principled until she wants to fuck her brother.

His girlfriend is getting planes then buses to leave Miami and I'm screaming YOU HAVE A BOAT at the TV screen.

I did like how Dexter just kills the guy in prison because "self defence" and the two detectives know exactly what he did and let him go because they hate the guy too and are borderline shady themselves.

Finally, La Gueda is one of the worst characters in TV history and everything she did was filler.
