Challenging how? In OS:D, you could do the hardest difficulty with 2 lone wolves (maybe 1?) but you had to use stealth/invis to prep a lot of fights with oil/fire, gas etc.

There are certainly paths you can take to make the game easier or even lone wolf, but they're fairly narrow and undermine many fun aspects of the game. That style of play even eliminates portions of content.

My comment assumed that a player approaches the game in a typical manner. If you want to jump through those hoops, go for it, but it's not at all how I like to play. At least not the first playthrough.

Just playing the game casually I thought DOS' difficulty was almost perfect. I didn't try and min/max or cheese or anything but there were quite a few fights I had to stop and think about how to approach.

Assuming they make Lone Wolf good enough, yes. It was actually easier in the first game past the first 30mins or whatever, although it might be harder in this with the CC changes. We don't know the actual stats of Lone Wolf in the release game but yeah should be fine. You'll probably want one of them with summoner for a pet and have shields or whatever. Like your early game might be a bit rough, but once you get enough skills it should be better.

I held out for as long as I could.

Last week I finally caved and bought the early access (for those who don't know you can only play the first chapter). I played the game until there was no content left for me to play and I couldn't be more excited for the rest of it to unlock on the 14th. The first game was great, but 2 improves on it in every way. Steam says I have 65 hours played, but I started over after realizing I didn't like what I had done with my characters after about 3 hours played. tI also spent quite a bit of time afk. All in all I put in about 30 hours of actual play into the first chapter. To be fair, I'm a fairly methodical player and it can easily been done much quicker, but I wasn't dragging my feet. I just explore everything.

Highly recommend.

I concur with this review.

one more day.
This feature trailer today, is a good rundown of what makes the game.

I'll be finishing up 24 challenges in PoE before hitting this up. so a few more days for me, before I dive in. so, no reviews, etc from me for a bit. at 23/24. need lvl 90, echo shrine, or 20 skillgem, or breachhead map.

Gonna be hard for me to not go all in and no sleep for a week. I loved D:OS so much.

First things first, spend an hour in the gamemaster mode to read every skill and figure out how to build the party. Kinda hope you can generate high level characters in there to test stuff out although kinda unsure how the whole thing works, I should probably check the video they did about it. I spent a few hours testing some mechanics earlier today(skill scaling, pickpocketing/sneaking/stealing/invis, DW and Scoundrel damage modifiers and other random shit) and I roughly know what I'm going with but the release version has so many changes compared to the EA that I need to review everything. And I'm still unsure if I want an undead in my first party or not bother with the whole thing until later.

After that hopefully I won't feel like rerolling 5-10hours in like the first one.

I don't mind making build mistakes and learning as I go. If I'm not careful I'll suck the joy right out of the game by getting stuck planning out the perfect builds/party. They had skill/attribute reset potions in D:OS1 so I'm not too worried about it.

Over the weekend I played an hour or so of the early access. Now I can't decide if I want to go with a pre-made origin character or a custom one. It seemed like there were a lot of Ifan-specific dialogue options in the first areas.

The one thing that I really wish they had added is "This attack will trigger ____ environmental effect." Half the times it's just my noob ass forgetting that I have an Air wand and then I fucking electrocute my Knight because he's standing in a pool of his own blood next to the enemy, but the other half I *want* to trigger the poison, or the stun, or the explosion or whatever, and it doesn't, for whatever reason.

Xcom 2's latest expansion added a 'target preview' where there's just little enemy icons on screen that pop up according to where you are highlighting your soldier to move, and it's saved so much time from not having to save scum on account of "WTF I can't flank that guy from here??" Adding a warning / indication for environmental shit would be fucking A++++ for this game.

I really like the change to pickpocketing/stealing. It forced me to use all of my characters to pull it off by using them as decoys. I'd just talk to the NPC I wanted to steal from/PP and have my Rogue work them over while they were busy talking. And of course I'd slink away leaving the "innocent" party there to get searched.

Would rather not have the game tell me if I'm making a bad decision before I make it. That would feel way too much like playing on auto pilot.

It's not a bad decision, it's an informed decision. Like I said, part of the time, yea it's my mistake. But there's plenty of times I *want* to use the situation to my advantage, and it doesn't work.

Just my two cents, D:OS was the most fun I have had in an isomorphic single player rpg since Baldur's Gate. The design is so tight. I sometimes would spend half an evening deciding what upgrade/skill point upgrade path to take. If you love thinking about stats and roles, this game is heaven. Hope 2 will also rock!

What j's describing wouldn't be a "warning" per se. The problem now is that the positioning is so finicky. Telegraphing that clicking on X specific spot will yield Y result would be a much welcomed feature.

Missing an interaction by an indiscernible pixel isn't a player skill failure; it's a game usability/communication failure.

Game is up for download, bit less than 16gb, not sure if EA counts or not but I had it installed.

on the other hand. its also funnier when you catastrophically fuck up, due to overlooking various interactions.

A game designed for pure tactical play, especially pvp its best to have clear and upfront descriptions of what a play will do. A TCG. or, x-com for the more direct comparison.
A game like this, while a very tactical game, is more along the lines of a rimworld, dwarffortress, imho. Wherein its so many systems overlapping, the intent is a bit of a chaos. and that will spawn fun emergent gameplay, and stories.
Its a similar thought to the "open the gm mode, and read all the skills, etc." it was VERY easy to break the game in D:OS, with op skill combos. it will probably be so here as well. but the FUN, is finding those combos on your own through curiosity, and experiments. Not, just reading them on a skillguide.

also, got my 24 in PoE. might dive right into this.
