Kinda sucks that only 6 teams will be present at Key Arena though... And most likely half of them won't speak english at all. Lets hope some personable players like Dendi make it through. Although I think it'd be hilarious to see how awkward some of these guys are in these situations.

DOTA players seem to be more extroverted than some other eSports at least. You'll still get the shut-in weirdos but most of the interviews in Starcraft are just absolutely horrible to watch. Not sure why none of these people make eye contact ever.

Well the good thing about dota/lol/cs is since it's team games, it's relatively likely for at least one guy per team to not be a weirdo and be able to talk properly, so as long as they're interviewing that guy, it's fine.

Also it's 8 teams at the key arena, 6 is what gets eliminated from phase 2 prelims. Top 2 of the phase2 prelims and winners of the phase 3 prelims mini tournament go to winner brackets while all 4 top losers of the phase3 go to loser bracket.

It helps that they are usually 20+ with the oldest person 24+, those years of experience really add up. I think I have been spoiled by Hotbid, his interviews make even the biggest neckbeard sound like decent person.

Kaci did a good job at getting some of the players to open up last year. Didn't she even get Mushi to dance? Lol

She is. I think they announced that she was returning around the same time they confirmed Key Arena was going to be the venue.

So I just beat Lysander in a ranked game... Guy is only 4200 mmr wtf? Has autograph runes and shit in his profile so i'm 99% sure it was really him.

5k is a hard ass barrier to breach in solo queue. You either have to be generally rated 5k at any role/position, like omhgee who can play anything it seems. If I random in ranked I will lose 60% of my games unless the randomizer gods are friendly to me and pick me heroes I can play well. If you can't play every position/role you have to chain pick your best heroes and hope the team fits around you, or you have to ride the tails of whatever is OP in any given patch. Draskyl is the only personality that was never a pro that is around 5k rated I believe that I know of. Godz might be in the high 4k's or low 5k but I am not certain on that. Either way, the pool of players who surpass 5k is excessively small.

Just for context I watch fear play one game on his stream. He's 6k rated. His team was full of players who had 4300-4500 MMR the oposition team was like 4700 rated all of them roughly, and he shit on that game going something like 17/2/10 with 250 cs in 34 minutes on tinker. The fact the matchmaker starts that game just shows how few players over 5k exists - you're pretty damn good at dota if you can get there. I'm not motivated to get there on a small pool of heroes because if you want to keep your rating there you can't ever play anything new or you will just dump rating.

Solo queue is just pure random. I have yet to find a way to reliably win lots of games because so many are lost at draft or to the fits people will throw if the game doesn't play like they want. I also can't win a game if my life depended on it down to 4844.

Fear once shit on me with the TI2-era Morphling. We even dual-laned mid to try and hold him down. He went something like 18-0-15. I've been playing dota since the ROC era and its incredible to me just how good some players are. It's like they dominate the game so completely that you feel like can't do anything they don't want you to be doing. Every opening is a trap, every trade is in their favor. Even if you somehow get an advantage, its like trying to dam a river with driftwood and mud. You keep trying to plug the holes but you know that the water is inevitably going to burst through and you just can't do anything about it.

One of the things I'd like to see in the game is some way to challenge higher ranked players. It's great that the vast majority of games are at least nominally balanced, but there is something to be said for being able to pull out a win against all odds. It might help force people to improve, also, since the only way to win is to up your game.

Here's a "pro invoker" shitting on a Rethan RR stack for shits and giggles. Found it randomly on youtube. Hahah. Valos and Chysamere in there too.

Thanks for pointing me out, in our defense our sweet sweet lanes were AM solo, Chysamere doing chen daily, valos 5th picking weaver to mid against him, and last but not least we did the great as hell tide/axe offlane. By 10 minutes am or weaver couldn't farm cause he was level 8000 with an orchid, and he could basically solo kill anyone for 80% of that game. I've played with and against him a few times before, and I actually tried to check if it was him during that game. His name was some randomization of his name like normal, but his profile was private so I figured it was him or an imposter. The AM was a rando and Censura the axe was in the RR channel - but first game I've ever played with them no idea if they are on the forum or not much.

So is this a thing now? Make a 3k rated smurf and post videos of "pro play"? Hahah. I tried his build (no boots, straight orchid). SEEMS LEGIT BRO.

What's the incentive for the person being challenged to accept?
