So, not having played Dota 1, and having never seen techies before, and just started playing last year. I just spec'd three techies games. It wasn't really that compelling to watch. No spectacular plays, and the team with techies lost every game. The one shining moment was when a techies killed 3 players in the rosh pit while dead (which people in chat said is bugged and you shouldn't be able to click them while dead?)
With remotes? All heros can control their spawned shit while dead. Same in dota 1. TA traps, Serpent wards, summoned units obv. People in chat are just retarded.
Played 3 games since the techies patch. First game, teammate insta picks techies and we lose. Next two games, opponent insta picks techies and we win. All 3 were the easiest victories I'd ever seen. You buy wards and don't chase without vision and the hero becomes 90% useless. It's almost better than a 5v4 because techies steals so much farm with his mines that he denies more useful teammates gold. I know he can fill a role and be useful in certain situations, but if I remember from Dota 1, he's more of an annoyance that prolongs game rather than a strong hero. From the games I've spectated and played in, people seem to be obsessed with mines and suicide even though I remember his stasis traps being the strongest ability by far.
Can we talk about how the support mirana singlehandedly won game 2 for VG against EG last night. They had at least 3 massive team fight victories that began with 5 second arrows onto the enigma from downtown. Of course, zai kind of have it away by building rod of atos instead of blink / bkb. I almost felt bad for him because every single team fight the announcers would point out how a bkb + blink would have saved the team.

twitch.tv or hitbox.tv, most tournaments have VoDs on youtube within a day or so.
I use liquiddota.com for the best tournament calendar and streams. There's also joindota.com, but I don't really like their site.
Tickets are nice if you really want to follow a tournament, the cosmetic is worth it and you have instant access to the replays, but that's about it. Cosmetics alone can be often bought on the steam market cheaper
