Looks pretty sweet, love the crazy-eyes on the sphinx.

but it does look like one of my major complaints from the first returns, namely, night vision:

I like it. It's like early EQ on my human with no night vision or gear that gave it. Then a kind mage summoned a stone for me and I could see.
"Can someone help me find my corpse? I was running around in a low level Kithicor forest and it turned night. Suddenly mobs were everywhere. I have no idea where I died, couldn't see shit!"

Granted it can be annoying, but it certainly sets a difference of atmosphere and danger of exploring compared to nights having the same visibility as day, just with a different color tint. Elden Ring also made it like this now, though only really in caves/dungeons. Dark caves were dark without a torch or lantern.

Man I love the night vision. That is what clicked for me in the first game that made me think “Holy shit this is awesome” The atmosphere of it is great.

I remember following a road in pitch black, hearing noises but not knowing what’s going on. I then come upon my first cyclops and it scares the shit out of me but I recover and start attacking. I climbed onto its back and it’s trying to buck me off. The lighting during that fight was great. I won and stood there and that’s when the “Holy shit that was awesome “ came in.

Is Dragon's Dogma just a typical RPG game?
Yes and no.

It is one of those hidden gem games because everyone just thought it was some typical rpg game but it was really well done, had nice mechanics, has obscure storylines and quests, has nice loot collecting, has a wide variety of builds, has a wide variety of NPC companions to take with you and interchange, some intense bosses with nice models, great atmosphere, nice map design.

Plus some nice harpy titties.

I never finished it. I don't recall exactly why, but I stopped and never finished it.

The main game is a solid experience and can be beat with some patience. The expansion is pretty solid for the first half but has a big difficulty spike in the middle of the final dungeon, I have played through three times and that one spot in the final dungeon always burns me out. I don’t mind though because prior to that it’s damn good and long enough for me.

The first game still holds up. It's the first game I played (replayed) on PS5 after Dark Souls.

I didn't complete it, transitioned away, but I stopped at the world altering event. Need to go back and finish up.

It was something earlier than that but can't put my finger on it. I do remember being in fights that I was getting overwhelmed and my guys were being dumb, and I remember backtracking a bunch of times because I didn't know what I was doing. I'll probably go for another shot at it soon.

Did they say anything about actual multiplayer? i know that got scrapped outside of japan in the first game or something which was pretty whack but the pawn system was still pretty fun regardless

Im bricked up for this though it looks like a beauty

I think the best thing going for it may be that it can actually be challenging. I remember not having too bad of a time, but I am also used to dark souls games. I told my cousin how much I like the game. He picked it up and the next time I saw him I asked how he liked it. He shelved it because it was too hard for him, he didn’t get very far at all.

Only thing I didn't like about DD was the leveling system. You could significantly gimp your character by leveling up with the wrong class equipped, especially from levels 10-100. Hopefully they try something new in that department.

Some of the endgame equipment farming could get really tedious due to very low drop %'s too.

Some super obscure shit in the first one, like need a guide or never do it right. The annoying rich girl escort for example had all kinds of conditions to get the desired outcome. This game though...first time I went down a well and got dunked on by some lizard men I was hooked. Once I was crawling around a cyclops and busting its armor off I knew it was something special. Pretty sure I beat this game twice, first time blind then later I did everything following a guide. The expansion and NG+ hole you can go down goes forever and gets insanely hard. Well worth checking out now if you never have.

I don't think it was that bad, sure it was far from min maxing but iirc it wasn't even that much impact cause stats get muddied down at higher values? Maybe I'm remembering wrong but I think it was like 15% weaker if you went for example warrior 1-150 then switched to sorcerer. And the game really wasn't super hard, you just took longer to kill stuff but that wasn't a huge deal. But yeah if you wanted to min max your char you had to more or less stay as one archetype, or switch at specific levels to build your stats a certain way, which was definitely weird. Stat growth shouldn't have been tied to class you leveled as.

There was also the slightly annoying pawn stuff. While I think the pawns in Dragons Dogma are still some of the best npc followers made, you had to babysit them, and know how to do it as well. If not, they'd talk to much, loot too much or the worst one, run ahead of you like mad people. Hopefully they did a better job of their management and making it easier to know what exactly their stats do.

Fairly sure I read a guide from Vorph or Hatorade here years ago on how to min max their stats.

They'll never top the title screen music from the first one.
