Biggest problem i have with the game is how extreme the stat reqs are for weapons. There's no point in pushing into tougher areas looking for stuff because you can't actually use anything you find for such a long time.

Fortunately i found an artifact that makes every hit with unarmed attacks a critical which also applies bleed so I haven't even looked at a weapon since. There's no reason to spend LP on anything besides strength so the damage ramps up really fast.

Armor doesn't seem to have any req but I haven't come across anything better than the stuff I got from letting the guards kill the bandits near remnant town.

There’s not a lot of armor, but there are tons of rings/artifacts. I did get a good armor set from the people out in the western woods then a great set from the Nemeton town.

Yeah I used the blue sword I got from the Remnants camp all through act 1. I think the weapon tiers are chapter based. As I never found a better blue sword. The common items with higher level requirements on them all have lower atk. Once you hit a new act, I think the pool of items from vendors changes.

There are accessory "armor" (bracers?) (I found both of mine in chests/drops). They used to give 6 each, but were nerfed down to 4. But 8 armor extra is something you notice. Especially when fighting a bear. I had to go full ranged on that, as even with 2x armor accessories, it did 40ish% of my hp if it graced me with any attack. 70% without it. When you decide to join a faction, you get their armor (which is 21? 24 armor? forget number, but is a massive upgrade).

I spent most my LP on crafting skills and such. Unlocked most of them by the time I got to chapter 2. I had done most quests in the factions. By the time I did that I think I was level 14? With a stat pool of 45. Still not encountered any trainers or such that train any mind skill, that's still at 5. Though I haven't used a single spell and still use the initial bleed skill

I have an 8 armor ring or bracer, don’t remember where I got it. Have a dozen or so cool accessories, have another that has a lot of magic resist, but haven’t run into magic mobs yet. I’m in purple tier of items, have really strong purple sword and axe. I think my shield is still blue though.

There’s a Mind trainer or two in Nemeton. I don’t have any permanent spells yet though so haven’t messed with it. The scrolls are already really powerful, not sure if Mind works with those.

It has a slow start, once you knock out the woodcutter quests and start knocking out remnant quests and getting more abilities and gear it gets better. Then you can really start exploring into other areas and getting more and more skills and gear. Its has a few lame quests but has some interesting ones as well.

I think they should add very early skill or two per weapon set to make it a little more interesting. Maybe a couple more mob types/move sets in the early game too. I think it’s great but would have a hard time recommending it to people that don’t have the patience to go through the first few hours.

Nemeton forever!
Yeah Nemeton is dope. An actual functioning town with laws. Woodcutters are like four failed tards living on dirt floors, remnants are criminal scum living in some stolen ruins.

The Nemeton light armor is sick. 29 armor, 12 magic resist, -30% stamina cost. No idea what the heavy armor option is but I’m sure the armor value was nuts.

Just looked at my accessories, silver triskelion is the 8 armor ring. Also sporting a 12 magic resist ring. Have several other cool accessories, one that makes unarmed attacks always crit. I did a few early saves so I could try different builds without fully restarting, since the first few hours were kind tedious. Need to try a monk build with that accessory and punch and kick shit to death.

Ruin Raiders are interesting. Though guess they are somewhat neutral since you can join them no matter what other faction you pick.

Nemeron heavy armor is 48 armor. I stacked plus stat rings to let me use the 65 req sword which is like 80 damage

Think I found my first bug maybe? Have the quest to find a package for Asmus. Found it and have it in inventory but he doesn’t have a dialogue option to accept it.

I think the package goes back to the Remnants guy Iirc
I will go see if anyone there wants it next time I play. Although my journal says “I have the package in hand, now I just need to hand it to Asmus”

I never played Gothic, was it particularly amazing?
At the time 2001, 2002 yeah. It was basically like a Witcher or Skyrim. You’re just a nobody with nothing and go do what you want in a brutal fantasy world. Your actions had effects on the game world. They were pretty immersive.

Gothic 3 is playable and you can find it on a lot of platforms. It’s missing 15 years of qol updates that you expect to be there, but if you give it a chance knowing that, you’ll enjoy it.

I beat Drova at 24 hours played but got the bad ending. I had all of the artifacts except one, and I have no way of knowing which one I missed so I’m doing a lot of exploring to see if I can find it. Difficult to do, needless to say. Great game overall, I recommend.

I saw they’re addressing the two main complaints I have with the game later this month. Some kind of limited fast travel and some kind of mechanism to find people better. I have been playing blind so when it has some point of a quest that’s like “hey go find Trevor and give him this note” I’m like how tf am I supposed to remember where that asshole was and spend a lot of time wandering around looking for him.

Gothic 3 is pretty fun with mods still. Gothic 1 is also getting a remake.

Having a blast with this game and it has held my interest for a long time.

This games fuckin sick. It's a pretty old-school RPG setup, think old Gothics sorta, with a huge open map and no waypoints or direction finding - just paper maps and exploration and getting to know your way around.

Pixel art is like 10/10 throughout, music is excellent, and the world/themes are really heavily underutilized area imo. It's very old Germanic, like pre-Roman Germanic more or less, with accompanying mysticism and culture.

Combat is pretty precise with active dodge iframes, parry's, etc. It's almost brutally hard at the beginning and you're really barely scraping buy until you get your feet under you in terms of equipment, allies, skills etc.

It's even got a demo!
