It takes a lot of money to do sci fi with CGI and action scenes. It takes almost nothing to make a PG rated fuck flick of emo bitches.

Sadly I prefer the first over the latter, but the pussies of the world vote the other and they control the power.

It wasn't the money spent making either film that made the difference; it was the way the money was spent promoting it. Fandango folks have noted how TFioS' marketing essentially ushers in a new model to push twilight/notebook-type chick flicks: the author and the stars did a cross-country book tour and the producers spent their money riling up the book's fandom ahead of the movie. Fandango says TFioS was responsible for 71% of its presales the whole week. It's why so many people are kinda shocked that the movie even exists.... they pretty much spent 0 dollars on anything that wasn't word of mouth. If you weren't in the demographic (or were related to someone who was) you prolly would never have heard of it.

Edge of Tomorrow, on the other hand was promoted in the same old (failed) method of putting a star in a poster or a trailer with the maximum amount of explosions around him. Worst part is that EoT is actually a bit deconstructive of that kind of action film. Lastly, there's enough of a fanbase of the manga that the producers pretty much alienated or ignored that they COULD'VE milked in exactly the same way as TFIOS did... but again they opted for the old way. Pretty sure millions of weaboos would've lined up to see a movie if it had been promoted as Tom Cruise putting a stamp of mainstream approval on their cultural niche.

Great movie, but this will be another Dredd. Bulldozed by shitty marketing and trailers that won't bring in the general audience. This movie deserves a better fate then what it will get and will be another nail in the "original works" coffin (don't give me its a manga shit, very few even knew it existed).

Really liked the movie a lot. Really solid 9/10. It is different in the book but in a good way, no weird Japanese stuff like Rita being a coffee aficionado.

Ya I think he missed the point I was making. A bunch of vaginas read a book. The male wants to see Edge, the vagina says no I wanna see this fantasy good guy loves me flick. Guess which wins?
Then it is compounded by the fact it costs next to nothing to film Romeo making out in a park against lets say giant fucking alien ships and weapons trying to kill the world.
The end result eventually is the world becomes 7 billion walking vaginas.
Edit- At which point all the sci fi aliens get pissed as well and really take over our world.
I'm going to go get some garlic now.

After two weekends overseas and opening weekend here it still hasn't broken $90m. So better than Elysium but worse than Oblivion while both of those clocked in at ~$120m budget.

Are you all fucking idiots? the top movies have been super hero movies for the last 3 years.,,,,,
OMFG one shitty Tom Cruise film failed, and it must be the end of the world. Maybe if he went back to making decent flicks again instead of this cliche bullshit people would give a fuck again.

Put Avengers against the vagina twihard, and tell me what wins that week..

And for the person that compared it to the same marketing as Dredd do you ever leave the house? I've seen more shit for this movie littered everywhere then I ever care to see again.,
Dredd had abysmal marketing until it hit Blue Ray

No I am not fucking idiots, I am not fucking anyone, hence the rage.
This is scifi against vaginas, not Marvel. That shit has been around since the age of dinos.
We are talking about the Pacific Rims of Sci Fi against nerdy love stories.

This was about as sci fi as motherfucking Star Wars.

Give me some real Sci Fi not this fantasy garbage like Pacific Rim.

Thor took off on that bitch, and left her ass.

And Stark fucks every girl he meets...;} Also the world was never in peril in any of the Iron Man movies.

Regardless of that, those movies were all high on action except for iron man lethal weapon 3 ( which sucked ass). Over half of Edge was fucking Bullshit....

American audiences spent the weekend watching emo teens with cancer. Clearly they are becoming more discerning.

You have absolutely no idea what you are talking about as usual. The same crap will continue to sell. SCI FI has always been sketchy.

It's a tom cruise film...... So no, obviously the same crap isn't selling anymore.

The whole reason studios are releasing movies early overseas is the audiences in America aren't buying it.

Sci fi movies are some of the biggest money makers ever. Avatar, Star Wars, ET, Star Trek, the Matrix etc etc..
Educate yourself fool, or shut that whore mouth.

American audiences, are 90 percent white. I posted that chart recently in another thread. Over half are white males.

There might be one big teen movie a year, so of course they are going to come out in force.
That spike has nothing to do with the average movie going public.

Edge fails regardless this week. It failed overseas before it even made it to America.
