I've been farming Erdtree guardians because they give about 1k runes each and there's a bunch. They always come in trios though, and they hit like a fucking truck for some reason. Do I need armor with pierce resistance or something? I can kill them easy in a few hits, but they chunk me for a ton of life when they get one through.

Ahhh, right. So you're talking about one of the mage giants I guess?

That's a side objective thing, just leave it and come back. Look for caves, catacombs, and mines! Or just head to the Academy.

I dont know, I just stumbled across it and made the mistake of going inside when I was holding 30k runes

Ohhh, you mean you actually warped to Crumbling Farum Azula?

Yeah that's FromSoft for ya. You kind of learn to take note of your surroundings after awhile when in new areas... the more outlandish and "awesome" it looks, the higher the likelihood of getting wrecked around the next corner.

That happened to me in my third run (which I'm finally resuming). Level 50 or so. Got to the belfries last night and got roflstomped by the two mobs in Azula. I didn't even know you could go to Azula early, think I ignored the Belfries in my other playthroughs.

You're supposed to run past them and jump down onto a lower ledge, which has some important treasure on it. Resistance talisman, I think. I have zero good talismans yet so that was a get for me.

Doing Volcano Manor next (booked it past the giant crater antlion) and I'll give Blasphemous Blade a go. If I can get past Rykard, that is. Really need to get a focused build going. Too bad I spent a lot of levels on Dex and my Faith is super low.

Rykard is probably the easiest boss. They give you a super weapon that counters him HARD. There are much harder fights in the Manor leading up to him. Hell some of the normal non-boss areas are tougher than him. Fuck them little chuds that jump on you and eat your brains.

Rykard can be a pita now, but upgrading his weapon can help out a lot if you have the stones for it. Haven't tried blasphemous blade since they nerfed it for the DLC, but was hands down the most broken weapon in any souls game before before that.

Hopefully the serpent-killing weapon and the Blasphemous Blade use different upgrade material types, so I don't burn a bunch of mats on that one fight only to need them for the weapon immediately after.

So Blasphemous Blade for nerfed hard eh? I hope it's still worth using. My favorite pre-nerf weapon was that axe that cast a Frostbite AOE. Totally savaged PVP and PVE with that a few times.

Is it possible to play pre-nerf Elden Ring? Like installing the game with no internet connection and playing it? Maybe on PS4? Not going to, just curious if it's still possible.

Latest ER story: Saw this small island off the map and realized it's something I had never been to before, then spent a while figuring out how to get to it. Had to go through the Coastal Cave (found a way back into the n00b dungeon too while I was in that area).

The island didn't have much on it unfortunately, just a dragon Shrine that sold breath attacks (that I think are all available at the Caelid one too). I never got into breath attacks in this game. Still leaning Faith build for this one and using Blasphemous Blade and then the final boss' sword (Hopefully I can get that without going into NG+? Probably not).

Whole point of this playthrough is to do the DLC, so I want to avoid going to NG+ entirely. Might not even fight the final boss if I can't get his sword.

Another question, is it possible to get back to the beginning / Grafted Scion without using the belfries? I used my one key on the Azula portal.

Current progress: Struggled through Volcano Manor, fairly certain there are a lot of things there I haven't found. Godskin Noble whooped me, died like 8 times (which is way more than anything else has gotten me in this run). Got him to about 40% a couple times. What a rat bastard that guy is. Trying to avoid any level grinding until after Rykard (when I'll have to to get enough Faith for the sword) so my stats are pretty bad.

I panicked at the first Rykard encounter and ended up running past the weapon completely. That was a big mistake as the arena is most certainly designed for the Serpent Hunter's enhanced move set and AoW. Getting close to use another weapon felt a bit janky with the lava's hit box. Have you figured out how to dodge his arena wide flame wall? I never managed to find the perfect I-frames. Maybe Golden Vow would work?

Reminds me of when I played like two thirds of my first platinum run with my character wearing the Deathbed Dress. Everything was spotting me a mile away and I seemed to have no stealth whatsoever. Thought the game was just like that. After I got the plat, I found out the DD has built-in super-aggro and foes immediately notice you everywhere you go. They patched it out to just he normal equipment so it isn't like that anymore, but yeah, my first plat was inadvertently on hard mode.

So I can kill the 5 trolls by warmasters hut in about 1m55s, including travel and loading screens. Its about 5300 runes. Takes 3 or 4 swings to kill one.

Anything out there that's faster, at my level? Level 55ish, have up to lake of L opened up.
