Love the speed runs. Zipping by turning down resolution and blocking is A+++.

Lvl1 Wretch naked fights with a club against bosses is way more impressive though. ONGBAL is perfection.

Didn’t watch the other one, haven’t fought Malenia yet. I’m sure it’s just as impressive though.

What I love about those vids is that any given melee build can basically do what he did. You don't need some dumbass hoarfrost or parry + glintblade phalanx or whatever. It's just pure dodgeroll/parry + counterattack.

A non-parry kill of some bosses would be more impressive, but whatever. In Souls games part of gitting gud is gitting gud at parry.

Yeah, the thing that’s dumb about that is that in order to do that you are basically asked to not use the same playstyle you probably used for the previous 99% of the game. Power stance, or 2H, or big shield blocking, or dodge rolling, or sorcery? Nah, put on a fucking buckler and wait to party for 10 minutes.

It would be dumb if you were forced to do it, but you’re not. I doubt even 0.1% of people play that way. I like that it’s possible, the inevitable lvl 1 videos are always fun to watch.

The best part of these games (well an awesome part) is that even if your build is X, you can often approach an encounter with Y strategy as a one-off, usually without a respec.

There’s nothing stopping the power stance 2h dude from using his best 2h with a parry buckler and wrecking them faster than captain club.

Is the timing that much easier with the buckler parry? I've been parrying with the bronze shield and seem to be about as consistent with that as I have been the few times I've tried the buckler,

I actually think the Captain Niall fight I won was just using the bronze shield for the 100% physical dmg blocks, if it is more forgiving I don't think it is as night and day as some people make it seem.

Then again maybe my timing is either perfect or horrible and it doesnt matter for me as much.
