So I'm very slowly playing through NG+, and I found something really strange with Redmane Castle in Caelid.

I fought through the NPC skirmish happening on the beach next to the bridge west of the Castle approach, and there was a teleporter there. I took the Teleporter and it dropped me near the main boss fight where you fight 2 bosses, one a crucible knight and one other. Anyway, the bosses weren't there this time, and it was basically setup with the NPCs for the Radahn fight.

I'm wondering if this is just a NG+ thing or did I somehow skip a bunch of content?

Its not a NG feature. You can clear redmane and the bosses either before or after the Redahn fight

in NG I think i got to redmane through a different route entirely, IIRC there's a teleporter to redmane from another castle, is that why?

The first dark souls had a history of the zones after the godvessel being rushed. I never felt like that playing elden ring. The last zones were just as complex and detailed as the beginning. The repetition came from the catacombs and mines that were in almost every big zone and were almost bonus (definitely optional) content

that's cause you're on ranni's quest and you're on the kill radahn step.

After you kill him, go back to the site of grace insite the castle, go to the chapel and talk to the guy who you talked to before fighting radhan.

After his dialog is exhausted fast travel again to the way point in the castle, the boss door will be there for ya for crucible + misbegoten warrior

I don't understand how he doesn't take damage from the Waterfowl attack. Even if I have 25 STA and a +24 shield I still get killed if I try and block through it all. Not using exactly the same shield but still.

He's wearing that fruity mushroom armor, could that be why? It could be a hidden effect of the shield though, it's one of the heaviest in the game.

Armor is just memes, it's 100% the shield. That particular one has something like 70+ guard boost at full upgrade, which is more than enough to tank most or even all of her anime bullshit, depending on your stamina and if you have the guard talisman on or not.

Guard boost scales insanely hard, and the different of just a few points is colossal in terms of how much stamina drain there is when blocking.

So now that I am currently stuck on the last boss I am feel I can at least give my overall view of the game, it is really a fantastic game marred by some pretty bad ideas in places and these flaws are pretty glaring when set into an otherwise well made game.

The game world is expansive and well made, exploring was fun for most of the areas and I was always excited to see what came next. The castles and "dungeons" felt really good and were interesting to run around in. There was a nice breadth of weapons, armors, and talismans to really cater to your play style. The addition of Torrent and mounted combat was an interesting mechanic and certainly was not bad for their first go at such a thing in a soulsborne game. The story was actually there, sure it was still a confusing mess byt you actually could piece together tidbits so you had an idea of what you were doing, why, and why the world was the way it was. There was a good variety of enemies which kept things interesting and did a pretty good job of introducing harder enemies earlier on in the game to give you a bit of a sense of danger. There were some really awesome and intense boss fights in the game with perhaps my favorite fight being Radahn.

The problem is that with such an expansive world where you try and fill it with content you are bound to hit repetition. An example of this is the reuse of many bosses in various areas just with larger health pools and hitting harder or putting 2 - 3 of them in a confined space. Many of the tombs and caves eventually felt all the same and some were longer than they needed to be. The number of grab attacks and effects that would go through shields and deal massive damage was ramped up to 11 and seemed unecessary on many boss fights. Far too many enemies with near infinite hit combos and or delayed attacks to bait you into opening up before wrecking your shit. Being a defensive shield user it felt like a cheap move to give us guard counters and then make it nearly impossible in most cases to use it on a large number of harder encounters due to their attack speed. There were times when the controls felt unresponsive or would do silly things which caused me to die more than I would like. Fuck dogs, large plants, the large birds and dogs, crucible knights, and those undead dudes that would grapple you.

So overall it is a great game but the combat and some boss designs left a lot to be desired. My thoughts would be fewer big bosses with more unique move sets instead of more bosses who are mostly just "jump, slam, AOE, grab, move far away"
I agree with most of those comments, and the crazy thing is I still think it's an 11/10 game in SPITE of the obvious flaws. I don't know when the last time a game had me thinking about it when I was working; it's just that good, and honestly, I wish I had more time to play so I wasn't so far behind everyone here.

If From can find a way to take this formula and expand on it further while addressing some of these issues, I can't wait to see the next iteration. I really feel bad for people that love the setting but end up giving up due to the difficulty, such a masterpiece.

One thing I'd add: I wish they could figure out a way to make the quests a bit less vague in certain spots......I like the fact there's no markers or quest logs, but there has to be a middle ground.

I missed them entirely my first run too but from what I’ve read they only show up at night apparently. I went back and checked after Radahn during nighttime and sure enough there was a bossgate

So stuck right now at the final boss in journey 2. I’m also hammered so that helps a ton. Also some people had voice who are still in the first journey and said they are practicing? Lol really? Bitch, this is the nfl up here I don’t need no rookies. Frenzied still waiting for the end. Probably drink 34 more minutes and see what happens.

I’m going to blast the emotional version of Star Wars. See if I can wake these pussies up! Come on! It’s time to carry utnayan! (Just kidding with a micic 10 and me, had second boss to 2% before I went for that kill. Oops. ). These people really suck though.

Playing blacked out seems to be my best strategy for huge humps in the game. Back when I was throwing myself against seethe I was chugging whiskey straight from the bottle. The next day when I was showing my roommate the boss I was having so much trouble with *tadaa* he had already been killed and the room empty.

Its possible he has barricade shield on it as well? That art is huge for guard boost.

I’m on my new char in Liurnia, and Patches just told me about the virgin in raya Lucaria that transports you. Crazy.

Of course it’s Patches, so he’s claiming it goes straight to the Erdtree. But still cool!
