So what is Odyssey, a dumpster fire that nobody plays? Should I just stick with ED:Horizons?

yes.

Oculus is just for more immersion in your space trucker sim.

Game is okay, but turns into a peaceful material grind.

it's a niche game. If you like space trucking, and especially just the thought of going out into the Great Beyond and exploring (I think that over 95% of the galaxy is still undiscovered), then it's for you. If not, then find something else.

Check out this link for exploration: https://edastro.com/mapcharts/

How much competitive benefit does using an Oculus have?
I would say it is probably a disadvantage. The controllers don't really translate well to the game and the motion sickness definitely takes a bit to get used to. I can only do it in short spurts but it is fun to feel a little more immersive while playing.

Everspace 2 is alright - good for plenty of hours. It opens up somewhat, probably not enough to compare to Elite / X.

Yeah, but you can walk inside the SC ship. ;)
I bet this guy is a Star Citizen, and feels better saying that.

I think what is the thing most people like about Elite is the exploration. So far only 0.02% of the galaxy has been explored. Makes me want to load it up again and go exploring...

You think you do but you don't.

I left my explorer rig and never logged back after trying to explore in this game. Shit was so dull after about 500 jumps I was done.

Bunch of exploring at once is tedious I won't disagree, I usually do it in chunks, then return to bubble to cash in. I feel the landing/docking takes an ungodly amount of time in this game, otherwise it wouldn't feel so annoying to explore each system.

My understanding with a carrier (not at that point yet) I can just abandon the bubble completely if I want, and just live out in unexplored space.

I just figured out this time around playing you can change your jump range, but it's in the galaxy map settings, had no idea, it's not an obvious thing. That made a huge difference for me, as before I was essentially jumping star to star, THAT was fucking boring.
