Having done all of Agnarr in retrospect I think Luclin was probably my favorite expansion of the "clasic era" of EQ. I had a lot of nostalgia for Velious, but actually raiding it for 3 months I came to not really like it, lot of very long and annoying raids, frequently combined with abject boredom.

That being said, PoP actually has a massive amount of content but most of it gets trivialized due to the nature of AoC TLPs. In era people loved all the T1-3 content because only a 1-2 guilds ever did VT in era on each server, so unless you were in that guild you likely were not in full VT gear. Further, with longer respawn times on raid mobs and lack of AoC, even the top guilds went into PoP with a lot less gear than modern AoC TLP guilds.

When any scrub guild can get into elemental planes pretty quickly, and has access to doing the easy EP bosses like Fennin/Coirnav each week in an AoC, not to mention the mini bosses and all their loot, it makes PoP look a lot thinner than it did when people were living in the lower tier planes and damn happy to get Ornate armor and shit like that.

Yeah I think people go into PoP thinking they can go kill stuff in the lower tiers to gear out alts or as meth or whatever and then find out that time gear is so much better and there is just so much of it that it's pointless to go kill Grummus during your time off because the time sink isn't worth it for garbage gear.

PoP is also where the difference between being raid geared and group geared really takes off. It's bad in Luclin, but it's enormous in PoP and only gets worse for a while. So the lower attendance members that were doing well filling slots with a mixture of group gear and raid gear are no longer viable because the group gear is just so bad.

Plus no one is doing 5 splits of Quarm or end game bosses at all on Coirnav I dont think. The dynamic on this server is so so different no one splits any end game bosses or has to flex like we did on Phinny which is nice for having a life and free time but bad for loot.

Doing 4 Quarms every 6 days meant everyone had all their quarm gear, even some alts had some quarm gear. Doing time splits then 2 extra quarms with alts and stuff did Time night take an extra hour or 90 minutes or whatever though.

Yeah that was a phinny only thing, we didnt even split Vulak around here nor are we doing Atens yet. Big difference though is there is no competition here so that kind of killing isn't needed.

people dont split raid instance cause of that one fishlips thread on the forum where he cries its not fair cause the cliques go to the better split raid and leave the other split raid(s) with subpar people, so its just NOT FAIR AND THEREFORE WE SHOULDNT SPLIT RAIDS AND ALL GET LESS LOOT! lol.

final crusade split raids everything pretty much except AHR so far. Split vulaks in vel as well, cause more loot

I've been on some splits that struggled and I've been on some splits that were the A Team and rarely could I have told you ahead of time which ones were going to be which. Usually everything just went fine for everyone. If I was in a guild that was routinely making failure teams with the same people I think I'd just leave. That guild clearly isn't the top dog and isn't ever going to be.

People don't give a shit about total loot, they care about relative e-dick size. I bet over half of tlp raiders would say no to being offered a free aten neck if everyone else got one AND a seru ear that they don't. Most eq plebs are basically socialists.

I remember in aos being asked to wait for a few minutes while the splits started on trash so they could figure out which one was more likely to need some help. Then the one I did NOT get put in ended up being the one deathballing cazic. Shit fucking happens.

We had a split wipe in Classic which happened to have Grisvok in it and after that I think we did a pretty good job of splitting raids.

I personally log in mostly to play with friends and raid so being in a split to have fun with my friends is important to me. Spending 2 hours with strangers and Bobby Joe or whatever hick rambling in TS makes me want to KMS. Nothing is worse than hicks in Teamspeak and constant babbling.
