The Exploit:
Okay so basically you get a pattern of gear from city raids, when you examine the pattern it then gives you a quest to turn it in for a piece of gear. We figured out that if you trade the pattern before you turn in the quest, the pattern isn't consumed and you can get the reward.
So.
Obtain Pattern
Get Quest
Trade Pattern in 48 hour window of trading
Turn in Quest
Trade pattern back
Get quest again
Rinse/repeat for infinite rewards

You could probably sell the reward back to a merchant, so that's probably why he got banned. Wonder how long that one's been in the game for lol.

For mages/priests the gear is best in slot, and for scouts boots/pants/hat are best in slot. And the ban is perma. Yes the gear was worth it. And i was selling it to the merchant for like 9g per piece. Takes about 3 seconds once you make macros for it to make 9g.

Check under options to see if you have mounts disabled (you still get the benefit though). This has gotten me killed a few times, as having a mount disables my glide ability and I take fall damage, even in dungeons when mounts are disabled but I have the mount buff up. /boggle

So I did all the quests on the starting island, they got me to level seven. Mobs right outside the gates in CL seem to be 9-11, luckily my pet is a beast so it's no big deal. Any tips on what I should be doing now? I'm playing a Necromancer. Based on what I've experiences so far it seems grinding mobs is NOT the best method for leveling.

Take freeport bell to neriak then go to darklight wood, it's a much better starting area (~5 years newer) and rewards you with a mount towards the end, and better gear for the quests overall.
Once you get around 10 or 12 you can look for groups in wailing caves off of CT. Then progress to Fallen Gate and so on. Since you're a necro you don't have to worry about sitting around with your thumb up your butt LFG, you'll be able to solo practically anything.
Google "eq2 dungeon timeline" for level ranges.
At any rate wiz is so terrible at soloing that all I did was head straight to a dungeon and then lived there for ten levels, so I was often at the mercy of things like your typical group with two fighters, two priests and a bard that are pulling singles and autoattacking and nobody has any food and so on.

Luckily they often advertise themselves as "looking for a plate/chain healer" (meaning the druid thinks he's dps) or you'll see an SK looking for a tank. Nope nope nope.
You see a lot of fighters that are confused because their tanking dps is pretty decent thanks to all the outside procs being heaped onto them plus blowing all their AOE on pull and things dying so fast. "I can do 1k dps!" Yeah, for about ten seconds.
Double tank is still better than double healer at least.
And man, what a difference protoflame and ice comet make.
I was doing that, and then a whole camp of very tough gnolls spawned on top of me. No idea what that was about.

It's been like 10 years since I played noobie levels, but were you on one of those dynamic camps? There were certain areas of Antonica where you kill a mob(s) in a certain area and they trigger progressively more difficult mobs until a baby named spawns. I think there was dynamic camps for this for both snakes and gnolls iirc. I assume the same went for Commonlands for the evil side.
