"We use TeamSpeak 2, not Vent. Can you be on at 11pm pacific time to talk to an officer after our scheduled raid time so you can interview with them for a raid spot?"

Yeah, they never finished the system, and made the power regen one super rare, so people stopped bothering except for mana intensive raids.

Anyone else ever play Channeler? My Sarnak Channeler was a favorite MMO char of mine. The heat mechanic was neat, and yeah the class was almost too good because they had to adjust raids for the flat % damage reduction.

I had a blast collecting up all the raid DPS gear that was leftover, and eventually got the rare healer ring that neutered your heals but increased your damage by like 50%. I would sometimes parse #1 on AE fights when I didn't need to heal. I would nuke harder than wizards for single pull, but the heat mechanic balanced that out quick lol

EQ2 was flawed but fun with the right crowd.
Yea eq2 itemization was so good. I memba doing shadowknight + coil of the vile spawn, and other choice gear with wacky rules to go apeshit aoe.

Oh, one thing I do remember from release EQ2 that I wonder how ever got past the "that's fucking stupid" design phase was forcing you to stay online and in your home if you wanted to list something you had for sale on the AH. Meant I went to bed with the game running quite a few times until I realised the 3 silver coins I might make just weren't worth it.

Beta for EQ2's Origins server starts on May 2nd, 2024.

It will last 6 weeks. They're polling the community for more info on what they'd see for unlock schedule on their forums in the future.

A number of microtransactions, including Krono, are notably missing from Origins.

What are the odds that they're just waiting until official release to turn some of those on? IIRC it's uncommon for microtransactions to be a part of the beta. I think I remember that was the case for the Tarinax PvP server.

They've stated they want Krono to be out of the server in the Beta, and that the marketplace on launch will be very limited. Spell research will also not be in.

It specifically states "Krono will not be able to be consumed, traded, or sold on an Origins server.", so that applies not just to beta.

I have been playing beta origins. Honestly, I dont really see the major difference with origins to live. The only major difference I see is that you level much slower, and lower levels require grouping, and levels are limited into phases. Basically ghetto Seasons of discovery.

I honestly doubt this will be that popular if at all popular for long. The quest lines in original qeynos and freeport were not that fun, and once the novelty of the servers idea wears off and people start realizing that this is fundamentally no different than a live server with gatingn, This will likely go like all the other TLE servers that daybreak runs. Hype at the start, people will get bored of the content simply because its limited, so DBG will release more, and then eventually this just becomes any other TLE server.

so yeah, so far it just seems like a poor attempt to compete or compare with season of discovery, but without attempting to make unique content like blizzard did for that concept.

Unless they do something conceptually cool, or different than live, I dont see much in the allure here other than "Nostalgia" and hopeing that they can get subs from people that havent been playing eq2 for a while.

I mean enjoy it for a bit for the nostalgia at the start if its been a while since you last played, but make no mistake, the population will spike, and then fall like every other TLE. There wont be any true investment into the server by DBG to make this unique, or fun. They more than likely are just going to make it a flavorless grind. You will likely end up dissapointed in this server over time.

Do you start on the noob island? I both liked and did not like that idea. It did get you accustom to the mechanics of things before it plopped you out into the world.
