I played both, awesome games - Grandia III was the shit also.
Grandia was really good. However, was it Grandia 2 or 3 that had the bad port on PS1 or 2? Forget. I think it was released first on Sega or somesuch, and the port version on playstation was nearly unplayable (I finished it) due to extreme frame drops.

Replayed it on a emulator later and it was much more enjoyable. Highly recommend anyone who haven't played those games to load then up on an emulator.

Was Legend of Legaia the shitty game with the trees you needed to find or am I thinking of another "Legend of.." game?
It wasn't shitty, but yeah you needed to look for the trees to push back the mist. Each one you found raised the level of your parasitic arm monster and progressed the storyline.

I probably didn't give it much of a chance, but I hated it when I played it.

I played through the reissue on the PSOne after I had beaten the snot out of FF7/8(sadly)/9, and the lack of mechanics was kind of a turnoff. Otherwise it was a decent little rpg for sure. If they did a modern version, they would have to do something drastic with the gameplay stuff I would imagine.

Lufia 2 was one of the best RPGs on the SNES, easily top 5 on that system. They did another lufia game for the GBA but I don't remember it being very good. The first Lufia was kind of a crappy game as well, but the sequel was amazing.

Lunar: Silver Star Story is one of the most ported RPGs of all time. But the sequel was only on the Sega CD and PS1 to my knowledge. Loved those games though.

One of my favorite Action(ish) RPG series of all time is Valkyrie Profile. I loved those games. The old Tri-Ace just made damn good games.

Lufia 2 was what I was thinking of, rise of the sinistrals or something like that.

And lunar 1 was pretty good and lunar 2 was alright, not nearly as good though. You can get lunar 1 From the App Store, plays just fine

I wish you all well, but I am not hopeful for this. At best it will have to compete against rose colored glasses and at worst it will spark off a 'remake' frenzy. I never got a PS1 (Dad still hates Sony for losing Betamax vs VHS lol) so I never played FF7 (last one I played really was 4) but all my friends played it. Always liked KotR summoning, it was super impressive compared to the GB Color and SNES RPGs we were used to playing still.

Well, I guess that is... a thing? Or something. Anyway.

Still thinking they are going to "modernize" the combat gameplay, though I honestly think it only needs it during the first half of the game. The latter half you are basically just waiting for the turn to come up, as there is a lot of stuff you could do. Guess we'll see what happens in the coming months, eh?

They've already remastered or remade damn near pretty much every Squaresoft game better than FF7 and a couple that were worse. With all the hype around it I'm actually surprised it didn't at least get a graphical remastering before this, but even if the remake is a wild success it won't touch off a remake frenzy. Remakes/remasters are already a major part of Squaresoft's release schedule.

Hell, FF4 has been redone twice, FF4 Advance and FF4 for DS (which is the version that got ported to PC). FF5 Advance, FF6 Advance, and Chrono Trigger DS all have extra content, the whole Kingdom Hearts collection has been remastered. Square RPGs have all been mediocre for years aside from TWEWY, so they've been rereleasing everything.

If it does kick off some sort of frenzy I vote for a super Mario RPG remake next

I hope they are already years into making this game otherwise we won't see it for another 3 years.

FF7 was pretty fucking long, and the amount of art they would have to create to match that game is quite abit.

That's the problem with any remake of an old game, you are dealing with art that didn't have to be that sophisticated at the time, but bring it up to 2015 standards, and you need an army of a production house to make the same game.

I wonder how they are gonna handle the world map. Or the UI. Combat too. I mean, there's no reason to change the materia system or the stats/gear... the story is pretty great. I'd love if they added some of the themes from Advent Children to flesh out the late game.

Fuck, they could make this so cool if they're brave enough... and if the fans are cool enough to let them. The bones of FF7 are just so good, but they certainly aren't perfect. A few areas could use some modern polish and really wouldn't impact what the core of the game was.
