That's a pretty accurate statement for sure. I tend to rotate things to max out materia as I'm playing through and its led to me getting absolutely hosed on fights, not even just bosses.

anyone finished the game in hard mode? I really enjoyed normal and it felt like a good appropriate amount of difficulty for me. I've tried hard here and there and while it really lets you appreciate the combat a lot more, it feels like a college course or something. You have to figure out exactly what materia and strats for practically every single mob/boss, and figure out the techniques, team combo, when to use certain abilities, etc. Its exhausting and not really fun although it definitely makes me appreciate the beauty of the combat system a LOT more. I just couldn't do Bahamut at all and i looked at some videos and those guys who do it (some even do it without getting hit!) are insane in technique and skill.
I think i'm gonna give up hard mode, while I've enjoyed the game I have no real desire to sink another 30 hours in just to finish in hard mode. I did finally get that pull up trophy, that was some total bullshit

haven't cleared it all yet on Hard, been playing too much CoD with friends. Some of the videos I see of the combat that people are able to pull off blows my mind. Haven't run into anything too crazy as long as I have good materia setups and an idea of the strategy I need to follow yet. I agree the combat really shines when you're forced to do it more efficiently, though.

In those no-hit videos, the player is working under a special set of circumstances (MP restored between fights in the simulator) and maximizing MP use to spam interrupts and prevent the boss from taking any action. It is not any indication of how to play hard mode all the way through. If you want to beat hard mode casually, all you really need 90% of the time is a bunch of HP Up Materia, ATB Assists, two maxed out First Strikes, and Triple Slash.

Secret of Mana still pisses me off. So during the final fight, they say that if they use flammie magic or whatever the fuck it is, then that one character will vanish from your world. So I literally beat the last boss not using that flammie magic (took a super long time since I was doing shit damage)...and the character still vanished. Fuck you, Square ;p

He just dislikes people going against his preconceived notions about how a game is without playing it. Hojo is likely shit to him because he believes the game is shit, because someone told him the game is shit, because that someone hunted down some bad texture or other minor complaint to try to discredit the entire game.

I don't feel like they even tried to make it subtle about what a slime ball he is. I think that overly retarded cartoony Kefka laugh at the end outright inverted my boner. It's par for the course with the remake though I guess? I enjoyed Hojo as a villain, I think he was easily the worst of the worst in the original. Most of his atrocities are witnessed after the fact, alluded to, or flashbacks. But are we really going down this road again where you derail a thread over your own personal feelings about picards or being disagreed with? projecting much?
