Was that a deal going on right there. I'm looking at this again and just ShB is $40? I'll do some Google searching to see if I can find a key somewhere.
Whole game not on sale is 60$ which is pretty standard for mmos I wanna say? Starter edition(ARR, the base game + Heavensward now so 1-60) is 20$ and Shadowbringers, which include past expansions too(now only Stormblood since HW was added to the core game) is 40$. When it's on sale, starter is often not on sale but Shadowbringers itself is half price and the complete edition which include both is also half price, leading to around a 30$ price for the whole thing.

Yea, I have Stormblood, and so just need ShB. SE does those half priced sales sometimes, and so I figure Daid was just quoting one of those that was going on at the time. I should have bought it then! Oh well.

Shadowbringers is the best FF released in at least a decade, if not longer. Single player or not. Easily worth full price of admission, but definitely snag that on even a 25% discount.

How is this to start from nothing now that they've consolidated the story or whatever? Do I still have to run 100 fetch quests out to that desert oasis and eventually ragequit, or is that all gone now?
I played the game back in 2012-13 for about six months, got into end-game raiding, quit just before 2.2 patch.

Remade my character a week ago on a new free account and I'm already back at where I was before, after ~35 hours. Yes it was filled almost completely with fetch quests. However I hear they decrease substantially once you get into Heavensward content (3.0+).

Being able to fly after the original campaign has been a god send.

To be fair, it's not like the quests suddenly aren't fetch quests anymore. They most definitely still are the same shitty quest types, there's just less of them(with more cutscenes/text between), so it feels less grindy. Even Shadowbringers actual quests were some bullshit stuff, but it's a lot more enjoyable when you do a couple of them, then have a long meaningful cutscene, some more text, then a dungeon, then another cutscene and you're sent to the next zone(simplifying but that's kinda how it goes). They basically adjust the ratio of fetch quest to story to be less fetching more reading, which for some people makes it worse(although these people can skip the cutscenes to go faster, can't skip the fetch quests) but for people who like the story makes it a lot better.

Yeah looks like 21-50 is still the worst range after the revamp, but I'm glad to see quest numbers down so much in 2.1+

If they wanted to really streamline the experience they should have put an Aetheryte in Waking Sands.

That adjustment more than any slight reduction in quests would have massively reduced the utter eye-bleeding frustration of getting out of ARR and into Heavensward.

Put the entrance door in Horizon. Problem f'n solved. Just silly design to require a run through some level what, 8 mobs? Constantly over and over.

Oh, I think it was conscious choice to have you run around a zone. They're past masters at using geometry to pad out game time.

Anyone who traversed any zone in FFXI will attest to that. Uleguerand Range being a prime example, takes around half an hour to get from the entrance to the top of the mountain.

It's strange because they very much resolved it in later expansions/etc by having the main hub also be the primary point for the recurring "Go here to see x cutscene" quests. But the initial design for some reason was just like "Oh hey, by the time you open this area/questline up, the monsters in the way can't even hurt you. But please, spend the time riding your chocobo through every. Single. Time."

It's not like the Waking Sands building is awesome or anything; you can just have it be one of the buildings that exist in Horizon already. I mean like 90% of it is a separate zone anyway. Just a strange design choice and one that if remedied would solve a lot of player complaints.

It's slightly faster but not as fast as say teleporting to Mor Dhona and walking through two doors.

And, I mean, I want to go somewhere in Ul'dah so I'll teleport to Limsa in order to get a boat over.

I have to say the main story stuff after the end of ARR and before unlocking ishgard gets a bit tedious if you do them rapid fire. Its run here kill 2 or 3 mobs run back cut sceen. Run outside this room talk to one person cut sceen. Go back into the room you just were cut sceen rapid fire most quests take less time to do them than it is to watch the cut sceen.

They give you a stack of like 25 items that port you directly to it. Looks like an envelope.
I as a new player totally missed I got a ton of those as rewards until right before they moved their head quarters to rising stones. Still use them for some random stuff that sends you back there.

Might be a dumb question, but is there no longer converting soulbound items to materia? Can you just re-soulbind stuff over and over and suck materia out of it now? Or is there some other reason to keep soulbind at 100%? Been trying to clean out my armory chest while getting the most out of all my shit in here.

Yes, it does not destroy the gear any more so you just extract over and over each time it hits 100%.

Ya extract materia, then you can just vendor or desynth the item if you don’t need it anymore

I kind of wish they had kept the destruction in for (white colored) crafted/leveling gear, then adjust recipes like Facet to green quality. Having to sell off or desynth my levelling gear became a pita.
