So I made a dude on some random server (can't join Gilgamesh...) to start. Is there an mmo-champion/wowhead equivalent?

This game takes the G out of the RPG. The dialogue is just endless.

So I made a lancer anyway because dragoons were always my favorite dudes in the other games. I get the distinct impression just in town that DPS is not a hot commodity later down the road though just like WoW?

DPS are a dime a dozen. You're gonna have 30 minute queues for dungeons and it's going to be awful. I highly recommend finding a Free Company (this game's version of guilds) with people that will be willing to run the low level dungeons with you as soon as possible.

It doesn't get much better at endgame, there's still way too many DPS, but it's worsened by the fact that 90% of DPS players in this game are absolute garbage. Which is a shame, because there's some really challenging and cool endgame content.

Theres different needs for DPS. DPS in dungeons is always crowded. GOOD dps for raiding environment are a very hot commodity as they are the hardest rolls to optimize in raids and with all the hard dps checks having poor dps wipes groups.

Looks like 3.15 (pretty sure they said relics going in with this patch) is going live day after tomorrow :

On classes tank are the easiest and most forgiving classes to play. Especially since these days all tanks do in groups is go full str, level without upgrading their gear, never use defensive, pull half the dungeon then bitch at the healer when they die.

Agreed on a few things.

-The pathing/jumping this is a little strange, but after playing for a month I don't even notice it anymore. You just get used to it I guess. Yes, you do need to run around stuff often.
-DPS queues are longer, same old story as any game here. Time of day/server matter and what you are queuing for. Specific dungeon, yea expect some time to pass but if you do the daily queues it's not too bad. I just used the time in queue to quest or run levels or whatever.
-I love how I can be any class with my same character. You see this brought up in any FF MMO thread but it's so clutch.
-It is FF, there are a million cut scenes, endless text and LOOOONG quests. I actually skipped most during the leveling process but at 50 I was bored one night and started reading some of them. They are not terrible, and some have some neat adult-style humor. I'd compare it to other games but I'm not sure I've ever read quests in an MMO before except LotR, which I also enjoyed.
-The chicken thing you get that fights along-side you is insanely powerful. I've put all my points into attack and it's only got skill level 4 or 5 and it more than doubles my DPS on any class.
-For whatever reason, once you hit hard mode people mass pull dungeons in about 2-3 pulls ala EQ style. Not sure why this does not happen earlier in the game but whatever. It's still not "hard", just be ready for it or you'll screw up the aggro/pull. Once you hit 50(at least for me) there was a huge gear gap. I was only ilevel 45ish from whatever I got in dungeons and quests. Those tombs of poetics are key. With only those I was able to get above ilevel 110(which is where the first set of scaling starts). Doesn't take long either if you do the daily dungeons and MQ line as you get first round completion bonuses.
-I do find the content kind of fun but most is just massive DPS race. I've yet to hit endgame and probably never will so I can't talk about the uber raids.

The reason why people don't ae pull until cap is that at cap most of the people have gear that is either at or above the limit for the dungeon, and all their clutch abilities. It's a lot harder to tank/heal larger pulls earlier in the game without all the "oh shit" buttons, and gear can easily be all over the place, while the endgame dungeons all have min-ilvl reqs.

Also, there's a lot of aggro generation for Paladins that doesn't happen until they are 40+, and it can make larger pulls very dicey. Basically, until the dps gets all the cool AE tricks and the healers/tanks have their cooldowns, it's just not an ideal situation in lower levels.

DPS queues are bad, but they were much worse pre-expac. Dark Knights have really helped DPS get groups a lot faster. Still sucks to queue as one, especially since you can't do Leves while Queued (unless this was changed after I stopped playing near expac release!) but honestly, first time leveling you should have -plenty- of side quests and crap along with your dailies to get you to cooler shit no problem, and then when you hit the expac stuff you just make sure you do your daily hunts and hit up the Hunt calls (you'll basically just see a shitload of people typing "inv" into area chat. That means a hunt mob is up)

And yeah, tanks have it easy which is why there are so many absolutely terrible tanks leveling. I'm pretty sure I tanked 1/3 the time on my Astro/Scholar because the tanks (usually paladins) refuse to listen and just run in and do stupid shit instead of flashing. And popping all three cooldowns for no reason at the start of a fight instead of spacing them out.

20 A1's and 10 A4's later....I am 12% done...and that was after using all my allied seals and law!

10 A4 as the solo healer made me want to blow my brains out. Even with a premade group taking it down in 3:30 it was too much to focus on with the grind wearing on me.

May go casual mode on this one.

Relic quest :Anima Relic Quest chain

Hadn't done Zeta so had to do the 18 crystals. Took me 5 hours for all 18 so not as much of a pain as previous grinds.

Step 0: Activate the quest line
As with the 2.0 relic quest, you have to do an initial quest to start the chain. This only needs to be done once. "An Unexpected Proposal" > Idyllshire 5,5 > Rowena. This then sends Gerolt and Ardashir to Azys Lla, where they'll be for you to actually do the quest chain.
Step 1: Get an umbral and astral nodule for the relic base
This requires you to meet a vendor named Syndony on the second floor of the House of Splendors in Revenant's Toll. She requires one of 2 things to give you the two nodules:
1) A fully completed zeta relic - THIS DESTROYS THE RELIC. You can now buy a replica of the zeta stage (North Shroud (X:30 Y:20) from the NPC Drake), which you should do before doing this
2) 18 luminous crystals - 3 from each of the new heavensward zones (atma grind v2)
Once you have these you can hand them into Ardashir to create the relic base.
Step 2: Awaken the relic base
You need to do the following dungeons (in order?) with the base relic weapon equipped:
Snowcloak
Sastasha (hard)
Qarn (hard)
Keeper of the Lake
The Wanderer's Palace (hard)
Amdapor Keep (hard)
Dusk Vigil
Sohm Al
The Aery
The Vault
There is no mention in the text as to whether you can unsync run the non heavensward dungeons. Confirmed that you can unsync the dungeons for these runs.
Step 3: Gather materials for the actual relic
The awakened relic is too weak for it's current weapon and needs a new one, which Gerolt can craft for you with 4 new items: enchanted rubber, fast-drying carboncoat, fast-acting Allagan catalyst, and divine water. You can get these from Cristiana at the House of Splendors in Mor Dhona.
She will barter the items in exchange for other items.
Edit: Courtesy of /u/TaalKheru, the item trade in window
From the quest text itself:
The goods requested by Cristiana can be obtained through various means including dungeons, beast tribe quests, and crafting.
Speak with other players and share information to discover how to find them!
Once you have all 4, you can turn those into Gerolt to get the completed relic.

Can't believe I had any hopes that the quest would be more interesting than "grind the content we already made thousands of times." Glad I unsubbed, the 18th Floor seems to be actively trying their hardest to kill the game.

Lol, 53 days of 2.5 hour playtime to finish a fucking quest?
I don't think there's anything capped. Unless you mean doing only beast tribe quests, but you can get the stuff for tomes, alex runs, hunts and maps. Now the numbers are still super retarded, and it looks like it'd take stupid amount of grinding. And that's not even counting the crafting stuff, I haven't played in a while but I can't imagine HQ specialist items using diadem mats would be going for less than a few millions EACH and you need 12.

Sounds really fucking terrible, like all the worst parts of the old relic put together, just way longer.

I thought the new relic wasn't going to require you to have an old relic? lololololol if all of the new players have to go get a Zeta first.

Requires ONE of two things. As in, you either do that, or the other thing. Zeta lets you skip a step, which was basically what they said and most people assumed(although it seems to skip more than most people expected).

I've been busy. Ill try to resub and save it.
Squatter.

I'm still rolling my eyes at the relic requirements. It's practically identical to the Novus step when it first came out, iirc, except this is almost a "have to get them all just from daily roulette." I'm talking the 20x parts stage, to be clear.
