Yeah I remember I had quit ARR sometime around 2.2 or so and came back during HW 3.3 or so. Slogging through the MSQ was a pain until got up to the 2.5ish parts when the story really picked up and got GOOD.

So finished all my crafting catching up and shit a little while ago, even my gatherers are geared(not fully, I checked the numbers and figured I didn't need 3star HQ shit so went yellow scrips+crafted mix, much cheaper and I can get just as many NQs anyway).
Today decide to go fishing, figure I'll just start by stockpiling some GC turn in fishes for the next expansion. Then remembered why I hated endgame fishing in HW for the little I did: scrips bait. I need to fucking pay 5scrips per bait, so I want to fish for an hour or whatever here and there, I have to go gather some fucking red scrip materials first, and constantly. Hell if I want the better bait, it's yellow scrips even(ironically since it's only 3 yellows it's actually not as bad). The fuck is this shit seriously. It's not like I can fish for scrips either, there's like 3 collectibles and they're all retarded or use spearfishing. So I have to go do the mining/botanist rotation just so I can fish. And there isn't even anything worth fishing for either, which is the worst part. Why can't you get the new sands from fishes? Fishing was great in 4.0 with the sands from the crabs or whatever, then they add a new tier of sands and forget fishing? So dumb.
In the end I think I'm just gonna stockpile the spearfishing ones(I already have a bunch of bashful batfish since those were cheap on the market, they're use to spawn sharks for scrips I remember vendor hundreds) since at least these are easy and nice, but that was some rustling. I hope they unfuck this shit. Let me trade in all these fucking useless fishes for special fishing currency to buy bait with or whatever, now that'd be something useful. And bring back the swimsuits/sands.

Yeah I didn't touch FSH because it looked like pure aids to me.

Na EU Omega, I'll be moving once they give free transfers but still sticking to EU cause of ping, USW is too far.
Fishing is fun for the most part but the scrip bait stuff is really retarded. I don't want to have to farm just to fish, the whole point of fishing is to just relax and throw the pole at stuff, if I wanted to do gathering rotations, I'd well, do that.

Short of spending gil, is the sigmascape the best way to gear up quickly? My main goal is to get all the duties and trials unlocked so I'm not stuck waiting for Genesis upgrades to move through the story.
Edit: probably should have checked before I won a bolt, but I figure since there’s another tier past sigma that loot isnt restricted to one item per week from the sigma stuff.

That's the HW shit iirc? The ones I needed were Silkworm to fish in The Lochs and then some Stonefly larvas and/or suspending minnows to fish somewhere else. The minnows are lure so they're ok in my book, 50red scrips but you can generally fish for hours with them before they break(and with my gathering they shouldn't break). But stonefly larvas are 3 yellow scrips each and silkworm 5red scrips each, I bought like 25silkworms and I was done in 15mins or something, and I was mooching a bunch of shit. It sucks because I wanted to maybe look into fishing a bunch of random stuff too but I don't want to farm red scrips. Part of it is because I just farmed 11k red scrips or whatever it was to buy all the HW folklore books that I hadn't bought. And I mean it's not that bad I get a lot of scrips doing the nodes rotation it's just boring as shit.
Progression is like centurio seals from bounties to buy i330 gear > mendacity from virtually anything to buy i360 gear > genesis to replace that. Sigmascape is outdated, although it can supplement mendacity tier until you have enough. Alphascape has 380gear so that's much better but need enough to enter obviously. If you spam hunts you can get quite a lot of mendacity tomes quickly, otherwise just running the various endgame roulettes will get you a good amount. Also running the current tier of dungeons give 355gear which is better than sigmascape gear and almost as good as mendacity gear.

I recently moved to Gilgamesh from Goblin. Who did you get your 380 armor from on that server? I'm almost 66 and I'm off this weekend so I plan on grinding out the last levels to 70 on my DRK.
Going to continue leveling my scholar and then a dragoon next. I got my scholar to level 36 and I can't lie, it's been damn enjoyable playing a healer in this game. I haven't had this much fun healing since WOTLK as druid. Maybe since it's a scholar where you can dps better compared to the other healers and you then have Eos doing a nice chunk of healing for you. Ive done dungeons so far and I can't speak for trials or raids due to my level.
I haven't found anyone just yet. All I have is a 380 weapon/shield from the market board.

a_skeleton_03 I'm Gilg and can craft the gathering set when you get the mats. The only stuff you can't buy usually need 150-250 yellow scripts but it's not that bad.

if you want you could just do gathering stuff for custom deliveries each week and get a decent little boost on the red/yellow scripts from that to start each week that you can spend on bait. I pretty much haven't touched fishing since I got it to 70, though. Never use it to get scripts. As for the gathering rotations, I kind of found a simpler one using Instinctual Appraisal over Impulsive/Methodical looking for procs. You basically just burn a Single Mind and Utmost Caution at the start, do 3 straight Instinctual Appraisals...if Collectibility is above 360 you can Single Mind and hit Instinctual a 4th time than gather, if it's below 360 you just use Discerning Eye before your 4th Instinctual. Most of the time have no issues with that and it dumbs it down quite a bit.- 1

Yeah if you just need levels Namazu are great since they work on everything. The quests aren't even that bad for gathering as far as I could tell when I tested quick. I did a mining one to check it out and it was just mining like 3 items right next to the Namazu for it, bit longer than crafting but not by much. It isn't like the Ixal garbage gathering quests and Moogle didn't even have any gathering quests, so it's probably a solid way to level too.
I mean it depends on what you mean by chore but leveling mining/botanist once you hit HW isn't so bad. They have a different way to level other than leves called Collectibles. Basically there's an additional minigame and you turn in special collectibles items to NPCs in major cities and they give you scrips, the equivalent of gatherer tomes plus a bunch of xp. At 50 it might be a bit tough to get good rewards from it due to the lack of skills, but I also don't know what kind of rating you need for the lower shit. Once you have a few nodes to jump through as they reset though, collectibles go really fast, mostly you're just waiting 5mins between spawns and then hitting a node a few times then moving to next and going afk, it's kinda boring but it does leave you a lot of time to actually do something else without even requiring as much attention as the usual gathering grind.
That said, gathering isn't particularily amazing for money, and even is downright garbage on populated servers with a lot of gatherers. On my server with a real shit market, I still can only sell most of the materials for 1.5 to 2.5k each, and you do get 15 to 20 of them(could get 5-7 more if I spent several millions more on melding but like yeah no thanks) but that's just not great money though, it's nice and consistent but I just can't get excited about such small gains. And you're capped by spawns so that's the money you make every 5mins, can't really go any faster(can gather more shit inbetween but GP issues then).

Yeah no I'm not gonna waste deliveries on gathering when I can do crafting ones and sell gyr abanian alchemics/kingscraft demimateria with the yellow scrips and make like 500k for 2mins of crafting, while stockpiling crafting xp tickets and souls of the crafters and what not for the next expansion. And I didn't mean the skill rotation I have no issue with that, I meant the whole running around the nodes waiting for them to pop and shit. Kind of echoing what Pyros said, but the Heavensward and Stormblood leveling isn't as bad because Fieldcraft leves give you a decent chunk of experience each time. There's a little bit of grinding, but it's not nearly as atrocious as 2.0 launch was before they buffed gatherer exp earning across the board. 60-70 was fairly painless, to my recollection. I don't recall doing very many collectibles, even when farming for the Stormblood Folklore books (Heavensward Folklore was pure cancer; the 4.0 update made it a little better, but I was long done by then).
