For the quest chain he's talking about, there's no crystal in Vesper Bay where the HQ for the Resistance or whatever the name is, so you have to TP to the nearest town(Horizon I think it was) then do a 1min long chocobo run. Then you turn in the quest, pick next, and have to TP back to Drywood or whatever in the other zone, do a couple of quests, and back. It was a bit annoying but not too much I found cause travelling in general is still fairly short. You rarely spend more than 1min going anywhere in the game.

Yea that chain SUCKED. And unless I missed something you have to run it as the chocobos out in the world only go back to main cities and you don't get your own until after that line.

I mentioned before I did Ifrit with no healer so I wouldn't think healing that would be too difficult...

Yeah that was the one. Part of the contribution to my irritation was that a group was waiting on me to finish it, so I'm sure it felt longer than it actually was. But still think I'm missing what cinge was talking about. The only way I could do that quest was to Choco from Vesper to Ul'dah, the Ul'dah to Drywood, and back and forth. Each one was only like a 2 min Choco ride max, but not being able to go from Vesper (or Horizon) to Drywood was frustrating.

Since I joined the Grand Company and opened up the seal system, is it more beneficial on focusing on the Leves specific to that Company while leveling to go ahead and get some seals? If I read the description on the help text and understood the explanation from the Company guy each area only has 1 Leve hub per company? Twin Vipers were the East Shroud leves and the Bentbranch was for another company?

The way to do it which was most efficient was, unlock the chocobo in Vesper Bay(there is one even though there's no crystal), Attune to the crystal in Drybones and Horizon. Then from the Vesper starter, you use Teleport to the crystal in Drybones, you get the Teleport spell very early in the game but you might have missed it when it unlocked, it's different from Recall which brings you back to the base you're bound to but has like 20mins cd, Teleport has no cd but costs money to TP to any crystal you've attuned to, oh and attuning isn't binding to the crystal, it's like unlocking the waypoint basically. Then you do your shit there, and once done you TP to Horizon(which has a crystal) then you can use a Chocobo Porter(automated chocobos) to Vesper Bay. There's set routes for them and you can't always go anywhere but back to the main city, but in this case you absolutely can go to Vesper Bay, it's like 30g for a 1min ride. You do this, turn in, take next, then TP back to drybones etc.

The key is you need to unlock every crystal and every chocobo and not forget about them. Chocobos have an icon over their head when not unlocked so they're easy to remember, but crystals don't and you need to make sure you attune to all of them.

I did it by teleporting to Horizon and running the difference but sounds about the same.

One thing to note is to do these travel quests in a party if you want to save some $$$. I did the teleporting after Ifrit with another guy and we rotated teleports (it attempts to port your entire party) so we only had to pay every other trip.

According to the last live letter Yoshi-P said Arcanists will get Carbuncle (and possibly other summons), Scholars will get a fairy or multiple kinds of fairies, and Summoners will get eggi primals, which are like mini primals, like the eggi Ifrit that was shown, along with he said ones based off Garuda, Titan, etc. And they will not all be DPS, some will be for tanking, some for healing, etc. Also keep in mind we all eventually get chocobo companions too that will fight with us, and can be specced for healing, tanking, etc too.

What do you mean get nerfed? They need to be fixed. They are part of the story progression, to continue on you have to do that. So again, its not a matter of nerfing anything, they need to fix it where you can have 30-40 instances or more of these personal duties going at once.

Edit: Oh you werent talking specifically about those pictures. The only one that was any kind of challenge was the shadow mage and his gargoyle pet. When the little quest tracker says "kill the shadow mage" 99% of people are going to attack him and he just rapes. It wasn't until that guy on here gave the tip that you just ignore him and fight the gargoyle until a % of his health is gone or certain amount of time goes by(not sure which is the trigger) before help comes.

The rest were pretty spot on, not really face roll or but not really a challenge either(aka they acted almost like every quest to that point in terms of difficulty).

It's unlikely, but I really, really hope they don't nerf the level 15 quests. Doing the storyquest as an underleveled 14 conj was a ton of fun this weekend. I'd post a video of it for those who haven't played, but the NDA for videos is still in place

Are... are those people standing in line for a story quest? I mean I felt like a bit of a schmuck a few weeks ago standing in line at Disneyland as some fatass on a scooter used the 'disability' line to skip the line every ride, but not in a game. Unless that's part of the design: theme parks have lines, therefore so do theme park MMOs :p

the best part is that people would wait for 2 hours to do this quest, then fail at it because they wernt prepared and have to wait in line again.

Its some huge bug, it only allows 1 person to do the quest at a time. If you try to initiate and someone is already doing it, your character locks up for about 20-30 seconds and then you get a error message. I really hope it gets fixed because there are a lot of these kind of quest(click on object/npc and create a little personal instance) and I can't imagine people putting up with doing this for just the one quest, but likely more.

its not 1 person, but its a small amount per instance so the instance servers dont get overloaded. Clearly this solution isnt going to work. The nerfing i was talking about was the gargoyle mob inside hits really hard with a poison attack and you have to be ready to stand still and tank it while using antidote potions(something ive never used in any Final Fantasy game before) and hi potions for heals.

Hmm I just kited him. Using both pots and stoping to cast cure on myself when needed(getting to conj 2 takes no time at all, everyone can have a heal spell).

As for the instances you sure? I got to that sword pretty early friday and there was only me and one other guy there. We couldn't click it at all, then someone the other guy zoned in and someone else just zoned out. I had to wait about 3 minutes before I was finally in, when I got in I sent the other guy a tell(one I was intially with) and asked him if he just got finished and he said yes.

You're talking about two different quests. The sword in the log one is the very first story quest solo instance where you help the two NPCs fight a bunch of treants. That's the only one I ever saw have a bug with creating enough instances for everyone standing around. I guess it's a good thing I did it early enough that I never saw any of that ridiculous waiting-in-line nonsense firsthand even though I got a lancer to 10 and then started over as a conjurer.

The level 15 one vs. the gargoyle definitely needs to be nerfed. The difference between doing it at 15 and doing it at 16 is night and day. 'Night' being kiting shit for 10-15 minutes as a conjurer because Aero is the only spell you can cast and it's complete garbage, and 'day' being able to treat it like any normal battle. The problem is, getting to 16 requires going out of your way to grind out an extra level instead of just progressing through content naturally. I don't even know why it was so different at 16 really. I ignored all the tips I was given for phase one (i.e. people said don't heal the NPCs, and I decided that was horrible advice because they kill the mobs way faster than I could ever dream of) and for phase two the gargoyle only got to poison me once before I triggered the NPCs to back me up.

That wasn't the most annoying solo quest for me though. The worst was doing the one with the moogle and the bandits. The main guy was a lancer and literally every damn attack he has is guaranteed to interrupt spell casting. I got off about 3 heals total the whole fight, and the rest of it was just hoping that the moogle bothered to heal me when I got low (because lancer dude can hit you from 10+ yards away even when kiting). Granted, that was before I realized that Sprint was huge spell haste, so maybe I could have done it with less hassle. But there's also a pretty good chance that it was never intended for Sprint to work that way and it will get fixed.

I still feel like those solo instances shouldn't even exist. I'm fine with gating shit with forced grouping in a MMO, especially given the history of FF XI, but I have a real problem with being forced to solo stuff as a healing class.

So I can be slightly OCD when it comes to things and I was thinking of leveling each basic class to 10 at release just to get a feel for things and having the option to sub or whatever when I level my main (WHM or BLK). Now with that said, I am also a min/maxer so would this be stupid to do? Should I just level BLK up first for the DPS and then level WHM with sub BLK?

I fully loved the beta on the weekend. Game has come along way and I reckon people hankering for some FFXI will be all over this shit.

Any idea if they reopening the beta this Friday?

When's a reasonable time to expect this NDA to lift?

Anybody's best educated guess will suffice.

No idea but I didn't realise they changed the NDA, so I posted a bunch of shit on YouTube...

Then I got caught out....

I would say that would be a mistake. You can do three classes to 15-ish by saving the quests on each continent for a class that starts there, but having nothing but the level 1/5/10 class quests and your hunting log to level off of will leave you with a whole lot of grinding to do. And like I mentioned earlier, at least for the moment there's really not much to be gained from leveling up secondary classes. Non-conjurers can get cure/protect/raise from taking conjurer to 12, which is worthwhile, but there's not much else besides some 15 second defense/damage buffs on a 3 minute cooldown to be had. Pugilist would be the second best option I guess, since they get a self-heal on a cooldown, and some other decent sounding stuff on shorter cooldowns.

Basically, I'd take conjurer to 2 to start so that you can heal, archer to 2 for the attack that gives you +10% crit buff (which sadly is not a ranged attack when used by anyone except an archer), and maybe monk to 8(?) for the self-heal. If you're a tank you could probably sub in someone else's defensive clickie for the archer one. It's loooooong time before you get more than three secondary ability slots, so you should plan accordingly and not waste time leveling classes for stuff you can't even use.
