so the hot topic of the day on the ffxiv forums seems to be whether legacy and non-legacy servers should get matched up in the duty finder. What are peoples thoughts here?

Personally i dont see why they would be, kind of takes away from the point of seperating the servers in the first place.
I don't see the issue with the duty finder matching legacy/non-legacy people in the same group. The primary concern about separating servers, I assume, would be to keep fully fleshed out economies with people already at endgame from being directly available on new character servers. Doing dungeons, since you get de-leveled anyway if you are above them, just seems like a complete non-issue, as it doesn't directly effect the economy or the gear available on the home server. Just some weird ass segregation thing with no real merit, imo.

Well no one has seen endgame content so we can't 100% say Bard will be needed, but based on 1.0 players tests and based on obvious observations like the fact classes run out of TP fairly quickly, raid bosses are probably going to exceed these and only a few classes get access to the Lancer TP self regen, it's safe to assume a bard with TP song will provide a noticeable damage increase.

As for the FFXI comparison, while more limited if you sub GLD you do get Savage Blade(attack that generates increased threat), Provoke(40secs cd large threat boost on a target) and Flash(aoe mp based threat) so you could in theory build any of the DoW classes into a tank, even though it would probably be awful due to the lack of a tanking "stance" like PLD and WAR get in the higher levels. Maybe a Monk tank, one of their stance gives like 10% evasion or something so there might be something decent there for offtanking with higher DPS or whatever.

Yeah, I understand. Ultimately it won't matter. I'll level the other classes assuming the game sticks. Just having some uncertainty with which one I want to start out with.

Right. No one has seen endgame, just addressing this based on their past tendencies. Totally could play out somehow that some other support class is the most in demand for some weird reason. Luckily that is what I like about the class/job system that other games lack - I know that if something happens to my class balance wise, I can always reroll without too much effort of regearing and reflagging/refactioning (what ever that means for FFXIV).

Class demand can swing massively depending on the mobs S-E decide to introduce in to the game as well. If prime exp spots are populated with little bastard imps that spawn crap like Amnesia then you're going to find groups demand classes that work with that. S-E are past masters at creating negative status effects that make players weep like Doom, Curse, and my personal favourite Paralyze.

Totally true. What were those little pink birds that shaped all of Wings of the Goddess exp parties? That's when I remember quitting cause I was too busy to max out BRD or RDM to be useful in exp parties as a useless WHM (at the time), pre SCH being around.

Hey guys, still looking for a beta key to register, if anyone has one that may still be valid. The one up above has already been snatched up. Thanks in advance!

Personally I think they should do the duty finder just like they are supposedly looking at doing transfers. After some time (6 months?) integrate them and make everything free for all but for the first 6 months I rather see them seperated. This is more for my own personal liking, not saying its the best choice at the macro level of the game. I just really enjoy the idea of starting fresh in a game and trying to lead the way; yes people will be able to go online and read walk thru's etc but I just don't like the idea of some high levels raising new classes and already either having a holier then though attitude or on the other end trying to help too much.

I think we will have plenty of options for grouping by keeping the legacy and non-legacy servers separate; let the new people try and retain the "new" feeling for as long as we can! Also can you trade in dungeons? If so isn't that a way to transfer shit from a legacy server to a new one? Anyways, not a big deal either way I just really enjoyed being one of the first in the community pushing through things and this kind of ruins it on a few levels but if they think it will help the overall population then so be it.

you cant trade in dungeons.

After watching the developer commentary, they mentioned being able to queue up for raids in teh duty finder as well. That kind of worries me as far as legacy and non-legacy goes. If that turns out to be true in phase 4, i might just skip this game.

People already took over the forums whining about how Duty Finder won't "Let me queue my <insert class/job here> as a <insert completely opposite class/job here> and I'm special and don't want to <insert class/job role> but roleplay, derp." Had to close the tab and not go back. I'm all for it being a "click here for group" idiot button with minor customizations built in. But if you want your special LNC only dungeon run because two of you have a CNJ sub job, one has THM, and the other has GLD, go make it yourself. Ugh.... I just.... ugh

Who the hell is going to use the duty finder for raids? Christ that sounds painful.

24 man raids aren't going to be for duty finder they've already stated that. Might be confused over how they define the term "raid". In 1.0 they referred to the 8 man content as raids, even though everyone else referred to them as dungeons.

I don't really understand why people care about legacy/non legacy duty finder. It's going to be new for everyone regardless so who gives a shit. There will be scrubs and decent skilled players across all spectrums.

Thanks dudes. I had my mind made up pretty much already but I'm definitely the type of guy that looks for reassurance from people I trust. I will roll an ARC with plans to go BRD and figure things out from there.

Anxious to get past beta 3 and into 4. Hope this game has some staying power.
Do realize that he was talking about FFXI and not XIV there. No one is going to take a BRD over a WHM in XIV, as XIV's BRD cannot fill that role at all. If you see WHM's being ostracized, it will be due to Scholar being able to both heal and debuff, which should presumably make them the better choice for speed runs/grinding xp.

That said, the TP issue should mean that a BRD is welcome in any group with physical dps. In a group with BLM/SUM dps, maybe not so much.

Anyone know if Arcanist will be in phase 4?
It will not be, unless they have changed their minds since the last time that question was asked (around E3 time). Pretty fucking retarded, as many people have mentioned, but they seem to think that they can properly balance a class with just in-house testing (lol).
