So in #mymagiclife I've played in 6 tournaments so far, and gone 3-2, 2-1, 2-1, 2-1, 2-1, 2-1. I'm enjoying mono blue but it relies on the draw a bit too much and it's weak matchups are a little too weak. I'm grateful that I've managed to get a good supply of prize points so far which is making this much cheaper.

I have my eye on building Izzet Drakes now. Not the phoenix version, I think it's garbage in standard. I managed to pull an Arclight Phoenix out of the 10 packs I've opened so far, and I'm going to buy the Arcane Tempo challenger deck for most of the Izzet Drake stuff, and the phoenix will go with the other in the trade folder so if you are serious about wanting Japanese ones @a_skeleton_02 we may be able to work something out.

I manged to pull a Vivien Reed out of some kind of weird pack I got at something called Standard Showdown and traded it for a bunch of the lands I neeed so I'm down to needing just two things for my Izzet Drakes - 2 Steam Vents, and I have plenty of stuff to trade. So far I've put in less than $100 into the hobby and have all the boxes, folders and sleeves I need, and almost two full standard decks. Now I have to decide what I want to do next. Maybe a modern deck?

In recent pro-level tournaments, Izzet Drakes does awful (has been the worst day 2 conversion rate)
and Izzet Phoenix does GREAT (Making finals often)

Yo, if he's going to trade me Japanese Drake's for my deck shut the fuck up!!

You're like the guy who stands over someone else's trade and makes remarks!

Doesn't really matter to me what the pros play. On MTGA I've been playing against the same range of decks as I generally do IRL and while my Izzet Phoenix deck did feel more explosive when things went well, it also felt absolutely awful when my opponent knew what to do against it and had the answer. I only won something like 1/3 of my games.

Izzet Drakes seems far more stable to me. It has more raw power, is better against control, and I never felt helpless. With the amount of card draw and powerful creatures I never felt like I was relying on one, every creature is a threat, where the single phoenix that survived in a lot of games can mostly be ignored. Izzet Drakes also has dive down which felt /great/ where Izzet Phoenix is super vulnerable to removal.

Maybe it just suits me more? Maybe I suck with Izzet Phoenix? Who knows, but I'm at 85% win rate with it on Arena so I'm gonna stick with it.

Jeskai Drakes is also a nice option, more controll-y

Guy at my local game store plays Jeskai Drakes and probably has an 80-90% rate of winning tournaments.

You got to play Phoenix as a combo deck, you want to know when to okay spells and to dig and when to combo off. Also you need to know when not to pop birds if your opponent has an exile mechanic.

Jeskai Drakes looks fun but fuck getting 2 Teferi, that card is expensive as balls here.

Top 4 is Kiroy Kiroy versus Lendarios Lendarios and @a_skeleton_02 versus Enzee Enzee

Please note in the top four the higher Seed player gets the option of playing first or drawing. This can be set in advance in the settings of MTGA. If you have any questions please let me know.

For everyone else, Thank you for playing in my tournament! I had a lot of fun organizing it and playing in it.

I will be organizing another Tournament after War of the Spark launches so look forward to that and I'll see if I can get my hands on some prize support codes for next time.

Ayyy picked up my first tournament victory. Crap in the showdown pack, but got a cool 1500 points and a 100 yen coupon for singles which meant the cards I had ordered were practically free!

Counting down until April 12 when I can build my new deck.
