so is this a fun racing game or is this more min/max madness? Never tried any of the Forza games but I'm debating renewing gamepass and trying it. Caveat : I'm more of an RPG than racing person.
Arcade racer without too much min/max. From a racing perspective only the actual car frames are locked behind winning/buying/achievement. Autists have already figured out the min/max tunes for every car and for every class, and all of that is free minus a paltry amount of in game money. The starter cars you get are more than enough to be competitive in most areas and the way loot works you can get just about any reward from any activity so the only min/max is more play = more loot.

Multiple types of pure racing are probably the best part of the game but plenty of other activities like stunts, drift areas, and just driving around the various scenic areas. No real RPG type progression besides getting everything for your garage and wardrobe but once you get a handful of cars you're happy with it's mostly just achievement hunting, and there's a shit ton of achievements (accolades are what Forza calls them).

Fun as an open world arcade racer. The problem is the game half pretends to be a "real" racing game with tuning and progression and online competition racing. So at times it suffers from an identity crisis, especially with the mishmash of car physics designed for stick controls in physics defying situations like massive stunts.

Ignore the rat race progression and min/max stuff, don't be afraid to rewind, enjoy the at times absurdity of it, and Horizon games are fun exploring and racing offline.

Best online has to offer imo are the playground games (imagine playing tag with cars) which can be fun if you don't take them too seriously. Worst of online play is ironically the actual racing lol.

Is there actually a tag game? My son and I were trying to do this just ourselves the other day, but the shitty net code or whatever kept making us disappear so we had to stop. :(

Yeah, the playground event does an infection (tag type game), king (think smear the queer), and capture the flag.

I just reupped gamepass and I'm downloading it now. It's been so long (last time was when flight simulator came out) that it's letting me resign for $1 and 2 months free. Bonus!

Fuck all the events, I just drive around the map drifting like a mad man. The rain effects in this game are incredible.

I hate all the dumb little quips and stupid prizes like clothing for your character, they pushed that shit way too far. Also, I hate that some cars on the auction house require dlc to even purchase, that's pretty ridiculous.

If, and it's a big if, but if they want to do actual character avatars I just wish they'd be good. They look dumb and customization sucks. And getting common flesh toned socks for winning a race just isn't exciting.

I'm not sure the total list of playground events, but what I've seen so far:
Individual king - reverse tag with two crowns, most time with crown wins
Team king - two teams, 4 crowns. Hold the crown too long and you slow down but can pass to teammate
Individual infection - basic tag/sharks & minnows game
Team infection - team tag, can cure teammates who've been infected
Individual flag - colored flags to return to matching colored spot, tag to steal flag
Team flag football - one team runs flags to "endzone," defense tags to force them to start over

I think that's it. Solo events are 3 rounds. Team is 5 rounds; 1 king, 2 each for infection and flag (offense and defense). I actually got a bunch of accolades on a round of team king when my whole team quit. I sat in the center of the area and other team rammed me giving me a crown and taking it back over and over. About the only thing to do since even if I held crown the whole time I couldn't out-time the other three crowns.

FWIW, I think only the solo king event works for this season's challenge.

Do you enjoy ANY game made in the last 3 years?

Glad I've been reading. I used to play Forza a lot several editions ago. It was just a racing sim then.

I'm enjoying the driving in this game. But mostly enjoying indie studio games, triple a studios have shit the bed and I'm tired of garbage games being released.

Just keep in mind there are 2 Forza franchises. Horizon has always been an arcade racer, Motorsport is a straight racing sim. You probably played Motorsport if you thought it was a sim game

Play the Eliminator only for playlist credit. Takes forever to load. By the time it asks me where I want to start there is no time left and it selects for me. I end up in some random point way up north in the mountains. Spend like 8 minutes in the default VW Bug sliding backwards down hills I'm trying to climb to get to the action.

Finally get out of mountains, finally get the one car drop I've ever seen in three Eliminator games. Drive around but don't see anyone. But whatever, already in the top 30 for seasonal credit.

Arena is as small as it gets and there are still 29 people left... Drive around, don't see anyone. At one point I see an icon on the mini map. Don't know what it means. Drive toward it but it poofs.

Down to 19 people, still haven't seen a single person. Finally get challenged to a head to head by a person I can't see. Get beat by invisible player.... Or maybe the invisible player was me all along....

Whatever, is all very lame, but I got my seasonal credit, 13k exp, and a wheel spin: common natural casual shirt.

yeah the eliminator is pretty stupid, they put it out a year or two ago during the battle royale hype as their version and its always been underbaked. Surprised they didn't really change anything for FH5.

lol an extra glitch at the end of this, you close the game on a super wheelspin legendary/FE drop and restart the game to get a diff legendary car

I think a lot of people in eliminator just looking for the top 30 challenge play hide and seek. If you don't move for a second or two your minimap arrow goes grey which means you won't show up on other's minimaps. While I don't doubt that many people are "invisible" due to their sloppy multiplayer code it could be you were playing with a bunch of hiders too.

If you load fast enough to actually pick your spawn I recommend pick near a landmark, town, or festival area. Upgrades spawn near those way more often and it's not hard to get a lvl 3 or better drop within 15 seconds of starting. Makes actually playing eliminator the right way more fun when you're not in the bug.

It's designed to let people hide so you can't even see them? That's even dumber than my assumption it was just more disappearing players in multiplayer.

Have attempted the trial co-op race probably 10 times. Couple times my own teammate rammed me to miss a checkpoint. Few others they just rammed each other enough we lost. Then again people near the front were also ramming each other and wall riding, so I guess that's working as intended.

Forcing 12 cars onto these tight roads just isn't fun. Especially when it's raining and cobblestone seems slick as hell anyway. With only one eligible stock car. Just shit design.

One race we loaded with only three of us, which can actually be a benefit. Got rammed and missed a checkpoint by a teammate e-break drifting even the easy corners. Eventually he quit, then the other person. I got to watch the AI with their perfect programing never making a mistake and barely slowing for corners just slowly pull away on their perfect driving lines.

One time mid race my wheel went limp, missed a checkpoint. Not that using a wheel is even fun in this game because it really sucks compared to the amount of assists built into controllers that make them superior.

Novelty of a new map is wearing off fast. The game is fundamentally flawed by bad design and worse management. My guess is next week's race will be super easy, proving the devs are retards.

Still fun going around beating everyone's PR stunts and rivals times, though.

Thanks guys! I knew bitching about it would be what helped. Next attempt I was able to get in the lead on the first race and slow the AI down. Actually swept top 5 spots. Barely won second race, but good enough. Finally done with that shit.

1 point shy of completing the season, daily challenge is to complete an expedition for 1 point (and 10 forzathon points); have completed 6ish expeditions and just don't get credit. Honestly this game feels like a buggy expansion for Horizon 4 more than a fully baked game. Still having fun but the bugs and the ridiculous AI are super annoying

you can skip a bunch of events per week, in FH4 I never did the multiplayer race since it was virtually impossible to get a lobby of 5 other drivers who even tuned their car and just having 1-2 people in last place threw the game. Same problem in FH5, it was a huge complaint. They did make unbeatable a little easier but it seems easier in storm and harder in rain maybe.

Anyways the seasonal prizes can be just bought from the AH anyways so just ignoring the whole thing is fine as well, and just play and do whatever you want.
