I posted it earlier in the Photoshop thread. It appears Adobe dun goofed, and it wasn't intended to be free for everyone. I'd hate to be the guy that pulled that blunder, this news hit virtually every graphic site and tech blog I visit.

Dunno, they still haven't pulled links. Adobe hasn't made any statement yet, I assume the execs are still probably scrambling. I don't think they can do much, as those keys are already everywhere and the whole purpose for it was because they shut down the CS2 activation server - therefore it doesn't even phone home to authorize it.

SoAdobe responded:

Adobe_sl said:
Effective December 13, Adobe disabled the activation server for CS2 products and Acrobat 7 because of a technical glitch. These products were released over 7 years ago and do not run on many modern operating systems. But to ensure that any customers activating those old versions can continue to use their software, we issued a serial number directly to those customers. While this might be interpreted as Adobe giving away software for free, we did it to help our customers.
They haven't taken the downloads down though, and apparently you don't even need to register an AdobeID account to get to them now. If you go tothis page, and scroll down and select the language you want, it takes you directly to the download page with the serial keys. Guess they figured the cats out of the bag, so fuck it.

I'd actually buy Photoshop CS6 if it wasn't 700 goddamn dollars (GDD).

I'm still on CS4 for the same reason (and even that one I didn't actually buy the license, the company I used to work for did).

I've always wondered if they'd make more money if it was priced around the range of say Windows. I'd upgrade every release without hesitation, and I think a lot more people would buy it that currently don't.

Same here. I've got a version of PS7 that I've been using for almost a decade now probably. Shit's just too expensive. If they would lower the damn price though, I'd actually consider buying it. But no software is going to get $700 worth of use out of me.

Assuming you have Windows you may as well grab CS2 since they literally just have it out in the open onthis page. It's more of a hassle to download Flash Player. CS2 is 8 years old, so probably will run well on your laptop. It will certainly run better than GIMP does.

But 2 is so much lower than 6......it's like....4 things lower.

I'm a photoshop tard, any reason to download anything besides the Photoshop CS2 exe there? Elements or whatever?

You can pass on Elements, it's really just a crippled version of Photoshop. Illustrator is good if you do any vector work. Logos, icons, t-shirt designs, things like that. Premier is a high end video editor. Audition is a sound editor. InDesign is a publishing application. GoLive is a discontinued web page editor (Dreamweaver replaced it).

So none of them will help me put pictures of Claire Danes' head on the body of some pornstar with triple D's getting gangbanged by midgets wearing clown make-up?

Pass.

That's immensely helpful. There are a lot of simple image editing tasks that MSPaint can't handle (like transparency for spraypaint logos or dwarf fortress tilesets) and all the other free image editing software I've tried just feels like such a mess, likely because I used Photoshop exclusively throughout school. I haven't had my own copy in forever. Even an old edition handed out for free is pretty amazing!
