After the Vietnam War for some reason Minnesota passed a law giving Hmong immigrants tax breaks / credits to move here. That was a generation or two ago and people who speak Hmong tend to value family like most Asian cultures and thus have kids more then traditional European descent (White) immigrants.

The US imported many Vietnamese that helped our side in the war. The Hmong, along with the Montagnard were among these people that helped fight insurgents on the Ho Chi Men trail in Laos and Cambodia. After the embassy fell in 1975, there were wide spread reports of retribution by the remaining Viet Cong and NVA on the imperialist sympathizers. This helped to stir local support for letting the refugees flood in, in 1980. Maybe one of the senators from Minnesota was an integral part of the refugee law, or Minnesotans of the time had a sense of duty to these people that risked everything, that the CIA basically abandoned.

Eh? Thought it was just the State Department that made that choice. Do you really think the Ethiopians would have moved into Minneapolis in such numbers if the State Department didn't settle them there in the first place? Fucking hilarious going by that housing project on the West Bank of the UofM campus and next thing you know it's Africanland......
