Yeah I've heard of that one on the scrapyard. Think there was even a House episode sort of based on it.
I make the Iridium sources and other radioactive products myself at work and in training they tell you crazy fun facts about radiation.

In Chernobyl, the radiation was so high in certain areas that you could hold a neonpipe infront of a hallway entry and it would start gloing out of itself.
Alot of people who made handmade watches got cancer of the throat, because they painted the illuminating Radium with a tiny pencil and kept licking the tip of the pencil before applying a new number onto the watch.

I think there was an episode of 1000 ways To Die where they talk about those women who used radium paint or whatever it was and were licking the brushes and eventually got cancer.
