If you let plaque build up and just sit there undisturbed for a while. It eventually solidifies into a solid and becomes inactive(doesn't produce acid when you eat foods with sugars anymore). In a way, the solid plaque(calculus) acts as a barrier since it is blocking the formation of new plaque on the enamel and covering the teeth protecting them from acids. The only time he could have gotten cavities was between when he last cleaned them and the time the first plaque layered solidified.
The spit is what solidifies it right? and thanks for reiterating the "calculus" part, I thought it was a typo the last time I read about it. But to delve deeper, you're saying they cant get cavities with this build up > So outside of being one nasty looking mother f'ker, is there a disadvantage here? Was this how people thousands of years ago kept their teeth into their late 30's? Or is this a special rare butterfly kind of case and in the right time, he would just be really lucky?

Minerals in your spit/food accumulate in the plaque and cause it to solidify. While it's really hard to get a cavity on an area covered with calculus, if you leave it long enough it will fuck up your gums and the bone underneath enough your teeth will eventually fall out. Also when you remove a huge ass amount of build up like that the teeth are going to be super sensitive to any cold/heat because they were insulated against thermal for so long.

Drew Carrey offered a reward for catching those kids.

Drew Carey Offers $10,000 Reward to Catch Teens Responsible for ??~Horrendous??T Ice Bucket Challenge Prank - Yahoo TV

"Price Is Right" host Drew Carey wants to catch a group of Ohio teenagers responsible for a "horrendous" ALS Ice Bucket Challenge prank on an autistic boy, and is willing to chip in a $10,000 toward a reward fund.

"WTF? Just saw this. Horrendous. These kids should be arrested and expelled," Carey tweeted after reading a Cleveland.com report about a group of Bay Village High School students who tricked a 14-year-old special needs student into dumping a bucket full of urine, spit and feces on his head.

"If the Bay Village PD wants to start a reward fund to find who did this, contact me. I'll donate $10k," Carey added.

Both the police department and Bay Village school district are eager to discipline the teens responsible for filming the prank Police Chief Mark Spaetzel called "reprehensible."

Investigators are reviewing a copy of the video, which the attackers recorded on the victim's phone and then posted to social media.

Carey, a comedian and former sitcom star, grew up in the Cleveland area, and is willing to offer his $10,000 to an autism charity if the teenagers responsible for the prank are found without any monetary incentive.
