Ha~ Some would say we're already on our way.

An MMO could easily come out with similar themes though. Just using current world events would give rise to a shit load of other lore components and they could literally take the game in just about any direction they wanted to without anything holding them back. Secluded, cut off cities of the future. Ultra wealthy that escaped and settled in space. Huge bands of nomads. Radiation zones that have mutated anything within that zone into new, and sometimes dangerous creatures. It just goes on and on. Add in Voxel or just true destructible terrain to that? Giggity ~
