Part 2 was pretty cool, too, even though the two main characters "died" in the first one, they came back in the second.... I need parts 1 and 2 in a bluray combo pack before I'll buy it, but part 2 doesn't have a bluray release date yet. Which is a shame, it's the one with the Thriller scene. Part 3 was a travesty, unless you like goth, gore porn.

I remember watching that one as a kid and boy was I not really ready for how fucking crazy it got. Fucking exo-suit zombie getting his limbs blown apart while some tiny semblance of who he was remains. You could incorporate many of that film's themes in a modern horror flick and give your audience a real unpleasant experience after how mainstream zombies have become.
