A question for anyone that lives in the NYC area: in a post 9/11 world, what is it like trying to get to the observation deck of the Empire State Building?

Is the security pretty tight, resulting in long waits to go up? Ditto for the Chrysler Building.

I pass this church twice every day on my work commute. I drove past the the statue in a raging thunderstorm about a half an hour before the lightning hit it; the rest is history (and one of the most satisfying and literally ironic occurrances I have ever heard of.)

I've never been up the Chrysler building. The ESB has regular security - I don't think security really holds the lines up. Usually it's just masses of people/tourists that have to wait for the elevators causing all the delays. Best to go at an "irregular" time during the week - say at 3pm on a Wednesday to avoid lines. Weekends you're probably going to be waiting hours. I sure hope you're not looking to blow the place up or anything.
