Bader was a badass

Lost both his legs in a plane crash, had wooden ones made and got back on the cockpit to keep flying.

I would suggest anyone interested watch the biographical film 'Reach for the Sky'.

Douglas Bader, Barnes Wallace and RJ Mitchell are all great studies. If even add Lord Dowding.
