It is not known if Hitler was behind the order to murder Strasser. Himmler and Strasser wasn't the best of friends, to put it mildly, and Reinhard Heydrich was involved in this act and gave the order to let Strasser bleed to death from the gunshot wound. Heydrich was director of Gestapo during this time and was appointed by Himmler himself.
